This is still a good school in spite of other parents experiences. No doubt some staff members will be unhappy for whatever reason. I have only experience professionalism courtesy and prompt response to whatever question or request. I've had 3 kids go through this school. Help is always available for the asking. One of the options we have in this district is school choice. The thing is you can opt out of El Camino but you have to get on the waiting list to get in. We are no longer using School Loop also. The new program is called Aeries and is very much up to date. My daughter uses it all the time to do her daily homework. ECHS is also ranked as one of the top schools in the country as well as California by US News and World Report.

To the parents that wrote that its a great school I am glad you had a good experience with the site leaders. Please ask the principal if he has ever taken cash from a parent (Military Officer) to get head of the line service during a basketball game or if that officer conduct was honorable in using the relationship with him to do so. If you are in his or the staff inner circle he and the staff treats you with a lot of respect. But if your not good luck...

Your gut is wrong. I am a mature and well-educated parent with reasonable expectations for public education. I'm not sure why you would think otherwise just because my experience is different from yours. I am sharing what I have personally experienced in a truthful and honest manner. I could just as easily say that my gut tells me you are the principal or one of his lackeys because that's how he operates but I won't stoop to your level.... I AM A PARENT of students who go to El Camino HS. The school is less than impressive and it's principal is terrible. He is a 'school-to-prison-pipeline' kind of guy. I have had several staff members tell me how much they dislike this guy and how he operates. He has no problem lying to your face if it accomplishes his goals. As far as the staff goes there are a few good teachers and the secretaries are helpful but most of the faculty are slow to respond to phone calls or emails etc. And they rarely offer any real help. Mostly they seem programmed to say how overworked they always are and to 'check the school loop.' The problem is that the school loop is usually weeks (or even months) out-of-date so it is not much use at all.

I am responding to the recent post by a parent dated Nov 12 2013. First of all I am a parent of two students who have or are currently attending El Camino. I'm disappointed with the response and this parents experience has not been my experience. (My gut is telling me a student wrote it. - or a very immature parent). I have found Principal Rowe to be an effective leader and administrator. The teachers do have an increased work load due to over filled classes but they always respond to my emails the same or next school day. I have found the counseling team to be super and very involved with the students under their supervision. I am very pleased with the education that both my students are or have received at El Camino.

I am currently an incoming junior at this school and I absolutely love it. El Camino is an incredibly diverse school with so many oppurtunities available to EVERYONE not just those who happen to have high test scores. The teachers are fun and create an amazing and sfe learning environment for everyone.

Her brother graduated from E.C. and is now at Berkeley doing great .I expect our granddaughter to follow in her Brother's foot step .We owe it to the caring and support from the teacher's . Keep up the good work

I am currently attending this school and it does its best to get its students active in school activities. It also has many intresting choices for electives and credit recovery as well. They challenge you and help you to learn responsibility and excel in your studies.

My daughter is a sophomore this year and is excelling. She has high hopes for herself and her teachers and counselor are supportive and nudge her to push herself beyond her comfort level.

I have 2 students at El Camino High School and couldn't be more pleased. They are both challenged academically and involved in school activities. They are having the time of their lives!

I graduated El Camino in 2002 and I really appreciated the help I received from teachers and the principal. I enjoyed all of the AP classed that were available to take. I did however dislike the lunch setup and security measures taken when it rained. IE students were not allowed to sit in cars when it rained and you pretty much had to find a teacher that would let you in their classroom or try and squeeze underneath an overhang. I will never forget going snowboarding with the club and having Mr. Briggs our principal attend and the next morning he showed up in our classes to make sure we all came to class the next day...that showed he really cared about our education and our fun.

A decent school now a 'Distinguished' school. It is one of those schools that has to contend with students from many social and economic levels and those with language difficulties. Administration faculty and staff do their best to ensure that students receive a good education. Of course it is up to the students and their parents to do their part. El Camino is a good school in a good district.

The faculty and staff for the most part are very knowledgeble about the students. They seem to really caring. I have left my student in ECHS for that very reason. The curriculum seems to be farely challenging while offering students various oppurtunities on career ideals. The sports program is pretty solid as well.

This school has been an asset to my daughter offering a challenging academic program to those who want it. A fabulous instrumental music program. Faculty and couselors who know and care for each child even with the huge number of students enrolled. I would highly recommend this school.

Tremendous school allowing for the development and direction of my two dynamic daughters - opportunities galore were provided to them as they applied themselves independently. I have a sophomore at UC Berkeley with a 4.0 gpa and a senior graduating this year headed to the US Naval Academy in Annapolis Maryland. How proud can one be of such accomplishment? It wasn't all easy but we've done a good job - community counselors dedicated coaches and teachers and administration taxpayers! A big thanks to all of you.

I graduated from El Camino in 2002 and was glad I went there. The diversity of student ethnicities was a wonderful attribute and was a great preperation for going to college. The only thing I must diagree on is class size being small. Unless they've added about 10 teachers (which with school budget I highly doubt) class sizes we not small. Even so I still got quality time with all of my teachers.

I am a 2001 El Camino graduate. I began going to school there as a tenth grader. There were a few personal problems I was having at my other high school and it felt like no one cared. At El Camino I was able to receive help from the teachers and assistant principals. I loved it when Mr. Briggs was principal. He forced the students to take responsibility for their actions and allowed student feedback on any changes which they were going to be affected.
