Regents Exams (RE)

In 2011-2012 New York used the New York State Regents Examinations to test high school students in English language arts, math, global history and geography, US history and government, living environment, chemistry, earth science, physics and several foreign languages. The results for English language arts, math, living environment, chemistry, earth science, physics, global history and geography, and US history and government are displayed in GreatSchools profiles. Students must take at least five Regents Exams in order to graduate. Scores of 65 and above are passing; scores of 55 and above earn credit toward a local diploma (with the approval of the local board of education). The goal is for all students to pass the tests.

My son is having a terrific freshman year at OHS. There is a new principal with a bog focus on discipline. The district-wide approach to anti-bullying is evident. The teachers are absolutely terrific and my son is doing very well.

This is the reason why I moved here . The best schools on long island .

This is hands down one of the best schools in the area! We picked oceanside over RVC and are so happy we did. Taxes are much less than RVC schools are in better shape (RVC is using trailers to house some of the kids due to unsafe buildings) Now that the core curriculum is in place these schools are now neck and neck for academics. Slight advantage to RVC... for now. Kids from Oceanside attend most IVYs just like RVC. Do your homework talk to the kids and teachers you will love it here!

Both of my kids go to OHS. The principal is very involved and we have a great PTA. While I work full time I am very involved in the school and can appreciate the efforts that go into the every day activities.

best school ever!!! great teaching skills amazing teachers that are helpful and understanding sweet kids and most of all great principal

this is a school that leaves much to be desired. thus far my child's teachers have been routinely uninspiring and unavailable. they have not returned phone calls or seem particularly concerned with student success. school population is entirely too large and the unfortunate truth is that the average college bound student falls through some very large cracks. they are not preparing my child for anything except ignoring robocalls regarding lunch attendance. very very disappointing..

I would recomment this high school. It has a great program. I do recommend parents getting involved in the PTA.

The above rating system fails to rate the course offerings which are extensive at OHS. It also fails to rate overall curriculum. My childrens' experience at OHS has been varied depending on the expertise of their teachers but overall I would say they have been challenged and have had a positive learning experience.
