My two sons graduated from TZHS. They are in their mid twenties now finished college and have great jobs. This school really prepared my kids for the real world. They had some very good teachers who I believed really cared about them and pushed them to do better and always reached out to me with any issues or concerns. I have nothing negative to say about TZHS.

As a recent Tappan Zee alumni I can say that this school has great academics social life safety and sports. This school has a friendly teacher-student relationship. The students are pretty social with each other preventing cliche`s similar to your classic high school movies. Certain sports are more involved than others but students attend a majority of the meets for friends or great athletes. Tappan Zee High School offers an internship program for seniors which requires up to 80+ of interning any job of their choice. This is a unique feature of this school and many college deans are very impressed with this. That class and the AP courses make this high school a fantastic choice for college-prep. Overall between the staff and students this is a great choice for anyone looking for a solid public school.

Our daughter graduated this year with her choice of attending four Ivy League schools. She also became fluent in Italian and and has a working knowledge of Chinese because of the wonderful language programs available. The advanced programs are mostly college level courses and solidly prepared her for college.

I'm currently attending this school and for some reason high school is very relaxing actually even though theres work going to this school for me just feels relaxing and not overstressing the teachers here are good but some of the students that come here arent so good but i stay away from those people although i do have to say that in the winter the heating system in this school works ok but not great some classrooms can be kinda cold and when its hot out this school gets really hot so i wish they had air conditioning but besides that it's a pretty good school

I am a former student and enjoyed my time there. Had a good variety of courses to select from and great teachers always willing to help. They also had a good variety to extra-curricular activities.

My daughter will be graduating this year. The offerings at TZ are excellent (lots of honors & AP) and (most) teachers are highly qualified and extremely dedicated to their students. As with anything else when parents are involved and diligent by advocating for their children students are better off. I have advocated for proper placement for my child and have managed to get the courses she needs. She is thriving and in the process of applying for college admssion at tier 1 and Ivy league schools. She has been well prepared here in South Orangetown and I know she will do well in her next phase as a student.

I am a former student of this school and I personally would not send any children of mine here. I qualified to take AP English and History and was kept from doing so for 2 years in a row and finally the Guidance Councelor tried encouraging me to drop out all together much to my mom's anger. Any help I needed was ignored. The programs are great and I only had one teacher who I felt let her resentment and childishness dictate her grading system but she left before I did.

Very good school - my son went on to the Ivy League my daughter is thriving. Excellent arts and music excellent teachers on the whole. Very strong in science and math. Lots to grab a kids interest. Just about the right size. Highly recommended.

I have two children in TZHS both are doing well. The teachers and support staff are very dedicated and caring people. One of the assistant principals is very rude and condescending. She is difficult to speak to and not concerned about issues or questions a parent had. It was disappointing to have such a negative experience with an administrator. Unfortunately the assistant principal that is approachable and understanding is returning to the classroom. Perhaps the new superintendent will demand more from the building level teams.

Horrible school corrupt administration thought stifling teaching methods. Send children here only as punishment

Excellent school highly motivated and involved teachers and administrative staff.

An very good public high school with a high level of parental involvement and good offerings for gifted & talented as well as good support for special education students. No TSP program--county program is in Suffern. Relatively small size pleasant California style building on a hillside with nice view of Clausland Mountain strong faculty excellent music and arts programs state champion in boys cross country. Serves a cohesive community some teachers grew up here & returned to teach.

Tappan Zee High School is a good school. Two of my children attend and I am pleased with the education they are receiving. The classes are mostly challenging and rewarding and most of the teachers are talented in helping children learn. There are many music art sports and extracurricular activites though one of my children who had planned to take Music Theory was unable to as they decided not to offer it this year due to problems with enrollment. Parents can be involved through the PTA if they like. Overall TZHS is a pretty good school.

Tappan Zee HS offers a wide range of academic programs and boasts a high percentage of its students who take AP classes. 98% of its graduates in 2005 are enrolled in College. There are many extra-curricular activities including a full menu of sports arts theatre and clubs to choose from. The schools has a rfeputation for very competitive teams in Swimming Track & Field and Soccer. Parental involvement is on the rise. The PTA is run by highly motivated parents with very strong interest in everything from Curriculum to Special education. The Special Ed program in the South Orangetown Schools are among the best in NY State. This is one fine public education institution.

Excellent school teachers are wonderful the children are classy and it's small so what more could you ask for?

Despite the pompous attitude and inability to spell of the previous poster I do agree that the school is far too focused on rules (which clearly emanates from the upper management) and has leadership which adheres strictly to the status quo. Far from being the 'embodiment of mediocrity ' however Tappan Zee High School offers stellar teachers who are as enthusiastic in the classroom as they are advising the numerous extracurricular activities. Plus the track team is nationally renowned. While the higher leaders and even the school board lack creativity there are strong undercurrents rapidly changing the haughty atmosphere...and the school still produces highly intelligent and refined students.

My daughter attended this HS and begged to be taken out. We finally put her in private school. My son is due to graduate this year and while he had complained less than my daughter he clearly does not think much of it. TZ High Scholl is wrought with too many rules and a dirth of imaginatve leadership. It is the embodiment of mediocrity.
