They do the best they can with their meager budget. Many teachers are good and try very hard. The parents do extraordinary fundraising and volunteering but the seriously low per student funding and certain state requirements stifle innovation. No way to integrate the supposed arts focus with the core curriculum. If you are a parent of a child who "learns differently" this is probably not the school for you. The MO is to teach to the average student supplement via the parents as much as they can be leaned on and then say that the students "will be fine." "Will be fine" at what? Folding sweaters at the Gap? Appropriate special ed or accomodations are routinely discouraged or denied. GATE is non-existent. If your child needs both -- fat chance. This may be true in many schools in CA not just Cabrillo's fault but it's not the place to look if your child is on either side of average. 4th grade student-teacher ratio is 32 1. Some parents can be a bit cliquey an attitude which is handed down through the kids especially the girls.

I love Cabrillo because the teachers and curriculum are fabulous with much integration of arts music and drama with more traditional curriculum. Teachers and school staff are helped by a dedicated pool of parent and extended family volunteers and programs are in place that encourage positive relationships and modelling between students of different grades in this K-8 program. My eigth grade daughter and second grade son are developping a life long love of learning from attending this school.

Cabrillo has a caring principal teachers and staff. We are very fortunate to have music art drama and computer classes. Thanks to the Rob Schnieder Foundation we are able to have band. I feel the parents also help to make it a great school as well by volunteering their time to help out where needed.

Cabrillo is filled with great teachers who really care about each and every student. They make learning fun unique and try to reach out to each student individually. Parents are encouraged to participate as well which really helps not only the teachers but the students and the parents. It helps build a relationship with the teacher the students and our children whom are in the classroom. To me that speaks volumns. It not only makes your child/children feel important but that you really care about their learning and education and are there to support them. I feel blessed that my children are able to be part of such an amazing school.
