California Standards Test (CST)

In 2011-2012 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

I really love BME. My children have been there for 3 years but recently pulled them out for home schooling. They are going to be changing their text books and there is just a lot of drama at the school since its such a smaller school. I also pulled them out because the class sizes we crazy. My 3rd grader had 42 kids in his class my 2nd grader had 36 and my ki.derdardner had 33. In my opinion that is waaaaaay too many children for kne teacher. My kids got no one on one time with the teachers and being a mother or 2 children with ADD/ADHD it.was not beneficial for them. They were loooked at more like a problem than a child woth more needs. I am just kind of disappointed this school year for sure. The staff in the office are rude and have been the whole tome i have been there.

My son has been at this school for 4 years and I have nothing but good things to say. I love how involved Mr Mc Donald (the principal) is. All of my son's teacher's have been great and seem to really care about thier students. The only thing I might agree with from other reports is the office staff can be a little friendlier.

This school makes my daughter feel as an individual who is important in this world. I feel safe when I drop my daughter at school having the peace of mind that she will be safe and that she can accomplish many goals in her life. I am glad I made the choice to move to this city of Phelan Ca. so I could get her a better education in a school that cares about their students and their well being.

Baldy Mesa has great teachers who really care about their students.

After careful consideration of all schools in the Oak Hills area we chose BME based on academic scores and great reviews. As an out of district transfer we are very pleased with the outcome of our decision. Baldy Mesa has exceeded all of our expectations. It is nice to see that there are parents involved at the school that take their children's education as seriously as we do. Parent involvement is a great common demoninator at this school... Kudos to the staff and PTA at BME!

My daughter has been very happy at this school. The principal and vice principal are very involved with the kids. There are a lot of activities for the families and a lot of families get involved. I love the YMCA before and after school program on campus.

I rate this school below average. To look at from the outside it looks like a great school with the principal and vice principal at events.

I believe that this school deserves a 9 out of 10. The teaschers and staff are very excelent. The academic performance in my daughter has been higher then ever before. She really enjoys this school and looks forward to the next dat at school.

I'm appalled that so many parent's have negative things to say about BME. We are district transfer's that have been at this school for 5 years. I'm a board member on the PTA and have nothing but great things to say about the staff and teachers. Compared to all of the other schools in the desert this school is outstanding. Yes parents could be more involved. We have never have a bad experience at this school. I'm amazed with how much Principal Dan MacDonald and Vice Principal Tony Buckley are involved with the kids. I've never seen this at other public schools! BME rocks!

After 7 years I see the decline overall because of the influx of cheap housing. There is not enough room in our classes. Teachers don't care about individual students and really teaching them but rather the test scores so the school gets money! So we are selling and moving back down the mountain so our kids are safe and get a good education.

This is a very good school. The principal really cares and stays involved in each student's progress. He is a great motivator and kind. The teachers are great too! It's also a California Distinguished School. I recommend this school very highly!

This is our first year at BME and we have mixed reviews about it. While my daughter's teacher seems caring she also seems overwhelmed more often than not. The principal is very pacified yet supportive of the children's successes. We were alittle discouraged in that there are no extra curricular activities offerred by the school only during the children's recesses. The gifted and talented program offers nothing to those children needing more of a challenge (not more homework). We like the fact that bullying is not tolerated. We are in the PTA and find that lack of parental involvement is a problem.

My children love Baldy Mesa. Their teachers care and promote the 3 Rs- Respect Responsibility and Roadrunner Pride. My first child completed the K-5 program and he succeeds at Quail. My daughter is currently attending and beams when dicussing her days at school. Although the focus on standards is obvious I feel the school's success is reflective of people caring about all kids in all ways. Music is available not only to 4th and 5th grade students but primary teachers use guitar recorder and piano in their classrooms. The councelor has intramural sports for any who sign up. Games take place at lunch every day. Flag football soccer kickball and basketball leagues are formed throughout the year. I am an active PTA parent who feels lucky to have a quality public school for my children.

Baldy mesa is very overcrowded! My children had no less than 31 children in their class at any given time. There are so many issues I found it to be a very discouraging experience for our family. The staff is so unfriendly.

BME doubled in size in the school year of 2004/2005 which put such a strain on our teachers. My daughter's teacher was sweet and competent but the class was so large that she rarely had control. We're moving the children to the Adelanto district this year. They seem to have a better handle on their mission!

My children have attended Baldy Mesa for 2 years now. While I find that the faculty in particular are qualified and capable the staff leaves alot to be desired. The front office is micro-managed and unfriendly. Children are rewarded for efforts and milestones which is a plus.

This school is outstanding! The principal is very hands-on and has a real relationship with the kids as do the teachers. They have a wonderful curriculum and the school is still small enough to feel like a community.
