I am a parent of a pre-schooler and the Bright Futures program is wonderful. The teacher Mrs. Magdavitiz is kind and caring and an overall great teacher.

The years before leading up to when my own kids would go to school were good positive praising of how good the teachers are the wonderful work that home and school Association does and the principals hand on how well the school functioned. I only hope that with a lot of the school cuts.... things won't change for my children. We have been very pleased to experience Shawmonts good reputation. We feel the good structure happening at this school.

Shawmont is one of the best schools in Philadelphia. Our music program is wonderful. Our teachers truly care about the kids. Our Home and School is fantastic and we really support our kids and the teachers.

My daughter is going to the Bright Futures program and I couldn't be happier with her teacher. Mrs. Magdovitz is a loving caring teacher. I know my daughter is in wonderful hands when I drop my daughter off in her class.

Shawmont is a phenomenal school. The teachers and administration are top notch. The Home & School Association is extremely active and parents are always welcome at the school for any reason from volunteering to observing.

My children attended this school for 2 years. The teachers in the lower grades were wonderful caring and worked with my children to meet their needs. I found some of the administration to be unprofessional and lacking. For philadelphia county this was considered a great school but the county is a mess so that isn't saying much. No grass swings slides or fields just a cement yard for the kids to play and a few basketball hoops with chain nets. Parking is terrible and my request for a specialist was ignored. Children in the upper grades are bused in from West Philly and some of them are pretty rough around the edges. The teachers are trying but the admin is lacking. This school is better than most in the county but you could definitely do better elsewhere.

When my child first attended Shawmont I thought "now this is a great school". Teachers were hands on and the principal seemed to be very involved. Now 7 years later I am so disappointed in this school. If I had the money I would take my child out now and let him finish at a private school. The teachers don't care anymore and principal is so out of touch with the students and parents it's pathetic. The whole Phila. School System stinks and Shawmont has definitely gone downhill. Keep your eyes and ears open because they won't tell you anything as far as your child is concerned. Can't wait until graduation.

I feel the school lacks the leadership skill it needs to take it from a good school to a great school. Some of the teachers are the best you will find while others are just buying time. There are some parents that are very involved but we could use more parents cooperation to take this school to the next level. I would love to see this school become a 5 star school its just not there yet. Many things go unaddressed do to weak leadership.

Shawmont is a wonderful diversified family-oriented community and neighborhood school and I am so happy and proud that my son has attended there since Kindergarten! The teachers are magnificent and dedicated beyond any teachers I've met professionally/personally. The prinicipal Mr Graff is hands-on accessible and tries his best to met my needs. The music department is fabulous! Most important is my ability to be an active/involved parent because it is encouraged and welcomed by all. I had been a social work/case manager for thirteen years in Philadelphia area and had many opportunities to hear about Shawmont and be a part of different ways they help and support kids with regular and specials needs. The Home & School Assoc is also a dedicated and involved group and most members made me feel very welcomed and appreciated. Shawmont is a great school and I have referred many families to send their children to this great school and they are also very happy so I'm told. I feel like part of a family...and so does my son!

I have been very impressed with Shawmont and what it has done for my grandson niece and nephew and many other local children. I feel it has a great family atmosphere and encurages family involvement and I feel known! My grandson has learned so much here. I see his progression each year and I am happy with every teacher he's had and how they embrace the children with their special needs. I am so glad my daughter chose Shawmont!

My daughter started Shawmont in the 5th and is now going to the 8th and she came from a private school. I have not been disappointed; infact I have been quite please and my husdand and I are looking forward to our son attending this year 9/2009 in the 1st grade. My daughter has had distinguish honor since the 5th grade and attended the Carver Science Fair twice and placed once. They have a strong home and school association and parent participation. No school is perfect and there is always room for improvement but the staff and principal work with you to make your childrens education meaningful eventfull and exciting. The school main focus of course is education and they keep up with the best of the best schools in Philadelphia.

Shawmont is a school that has maintained a strong academic environment for many years. I feel that this will soon change with many established veteran teachers soon to retire. Additionally the principle lacks focus for the future. All in all a great public school however watch your child closely in his/her 7th and 8th grade years as the teachers are uninvolved.

I would have to say that Shawmont is a great school. Its teachers are wonderful. I have 2 children attending this school and they are very happy and are doing very well grade wise. My children entered into this school from a private school 3yrs ago and I feel they have learned more at Shawmont then they did at the private school. So this goes to show that paying a few thousand a year doesn't mean it's better. Overall I am very pleased with the school and its teachers.I must not leave out my gripes...I feel that the Principal needs to keep on top of things. There where many times when things have happened to my kids at school and I was not aware of it until they came home hours later.Including injuries. Poor communication lack of information and his people skills also need to be improved. But he has a tuff job
