California Standards Test (CST)

In 2011-2012 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

We've been lucky and have had excellent teachers here. However that is not enough to make me want to keep my child here. The school is militant in a way. Very strict. Lots of yelling. Academically focused with little reward for excellence. No school carnival. No Halloween parade. Holidays are not even mentioned. No Christmas performance. No birthday celebrated. No extra fun activities of any kind! These small things are so important as they give kids something to look forward to! My daughter who is top of her class beige wants to go to school. She didn't even color a snowman at CHRISTMAS. Never comes home with art projects of any kind. Office staff not friendly. Principle not friendly. Cafeteria boss mean as they come. Thank goodness for the janitor who always has a smile and a good morning ! This place will make you wonder if the staff even like kids. Also no parent involvement because majority of parents English is there second language.

To the teacher that posted June'2013...sure wish there was more teachers there like you! I have 2 daughters that go there now..and it is just disturbing to me...when at a parent/teacher conference...you let her know your concerns and she lets you know "not to worry about her spelling..we have spell check for that"..WHAT!!! What kind of teacher in her right mind would say something like that..especially to a parent who is concerned with her child's learning!!..My oldest is now moving on to 6th grade...after her teacher let me know..even though she struggled through 5th grade..it's just a maturity thing..she will grow out of it! She darn well knows that my daughter learned almost NOTHING being in her class..and should be repeating 5th grade!!

As a former teacher I was displaced here after being laid off from another school. I was more than happy to receive another job and had nothing but optimism going in. However that was diminished by the micro-managing prinicpal rude and untrusting teachers and dark mood of the whole campus. The students were constantly yelled at by teachers who wanted their students to display respect towards them yet didn't set a proper model. I tried to be uplifting and calm towards the students but was told that was no good. To this day I can't believe how rudely I was treated. It was as if they were out to get me the minute I stepped in. I am a great teacher but they will never know that. The principle constantly barged into my room and belittled me in front of my students!! She was so worried about her test scores that she failed in forming proper relationships with teachers and students. In the end I went to the district and complained about harassment from the principal. They didn't care and told me to go back to work. I refused and am now in a great school with a principal who supports and respects her teachers! 3/4 of us who were displaced there have left too.

i like this school. i moved from a diff school and noticed he learning a lot here and behaving.. i am glad i made the change. They are little strict but i believe kids do need that too. You can call them any time and make an appointment with principle to talk to.

I liked ti better when Mrs Petersen was the principle The new principle is not too good She is phony and does not care about the students that much. When you try and talk to her for a minute she will give you the run down of how she is too busy to even care and find out what the talk was about. I tried to talk to her about the bullying in school but we didn't even get that far. Sad. Good scores and my daughter is a above grade level student and they won't do anything to make sure she gets the most out of the education there. When Mrs. Petersen was the principle she was able to learn with the class higher in reading because that was the appropriate level for her. Thinking of changing schools after this year is over.

We have two children in the school for the past three years and are very happy with the commitment to excellence.

Hoorrayyyy! We are officially a distinguished school! Our site validation visit took place in March and just last week Mrs. Petersen got a call officially congratulating us on becoming a Distinguished School. Congratulations to all the students for their hard work! Parents we couldn't do it without your support as well! FYI the last post must be about a different school. We are only K-5.

Delta View is doing such a wonderful job not only to my kids but to all its Delta View stars. My son is in 4th grade and my daughter is in 2nd grade. Both of them have been attending the school since kindergarten. Mrs. Petersen is a great principal who cares about her students and assures parents like me that our kids are always in safe hands. She knows her students by name and always looks into each kid's potential to grow. Every since my first kid started attending this school I have belief that this school has a big potential considering at that time that it is a brand new school on a brand new community. I was so impressed about their high ratings and how far they've gone with their STAR testing results a whopping 82 point gain from last year. Truly the teachers and staff should be commended!

My two children have attended this school for the past three years. I cannot say enough positive things about the teachers the principal and the learning environment. Both my son and my daughter have been excited about going to school from day one. The principal is fantastic and seems to know each child by name. The teachers make home visits and have gone the extra mile to provide an excellent education. I couldn't be happier.

My daughter is going into 4th grad and started here in the 2nd grade. She loves this school and so do I! The academics are great the teachers actually care and are involved with the children and the principal handles problems appropriately. I love their zero tolerance bully policy at the school it makes the kids feel safe and I know my daughter doesn't have to worry about being picked on. They have also made changes on campus to increase safety.

Mrs. Petersen is one of the best principals I have worked for. She is caring kind and very knowledable. She is supportive to teachers students and parents. She has put in place so many wonderful program. The discipline situation is taken very seriously Mrs. Petersen is a problem solver who is always respectful to the students.

The Principal is really nice. But unfortunately the teacher to whom my kid goes to does not tries to bring out the best and is not encouraging at all. I am worried my really smart kid will get demotivated. We are very disappointed.

I have two students that attend Delta View. The staff at this school is dedicated to providing our kids with the learning tools to make them successful. Each teacher that my students have had has made great efforts to communicate with our family both positve and negative siutations. They even came to our home to learn about our family! It was truly an honor to have them take their free time and build a relationship with our family. My kids love going to school and attending the extra curricular activities that this school provides. One thing I would like to improve is the parent involvement with our kids' education. So many people have complaints but you won't find them activiely participating in their and our childrens education.

I have 4 kids that range in age from 5 years old to 12 years old. My oldest 3 have been going to Delta View since the school opened. I did have a problem with one teacher who is no longer there. But all of the other teachers that all my children have had are wonderful! My kids love going to Delta View!

I believe the school is unsafe-Doors are open and anybody can enter at school premises at anytime. Its terrible hot these days and waiting area should be shaded to protect the students from getting sick.

I have had nothing but problems with this school. I even tried to change schools but the school district is so impacted that we have no choice. Thank god he will be going to a different school next year. His teacher is wonderful but the principal is terrible and if I knew what I know now I NEVER would have enrolled my child.

Mrs. Peterson is not a strong principal especially for the demographics of the area. Discipline is not enforced and the school is unsafe.

I agree that the academics are ok but the safety is below average if not poor.
