I have been in the mortgage industry for over 10 years and love the business. I received my degree in finance and wanted to have a career where I could help people daily. It has been very rewarding for me to help hundreds of individuals and families with their home financing needs over the past decade.
The industry has changed dramatically since I began my career in 2002. It used to be so easy for borrower to qualify for a mortgage. Little or no paperwork was involved and appraised values were never an issue. Since the housing bubble popped, investors are more cautious and the secondary markets have tightened their guidelines significantly. I hope that guidelines will loosen a little in the future where banks can go back to common sense lending. We've gone from one extreme to another. The positive change in the decade is that rates just continue to fall to new lows almost annually!
I think it is very important to keep the customers informed of the loan process. Borrowers can get very frustrated if their loan is in a black hole and not knowing what to expect. I have been fortunate to have an incredible team of associates that I get to work with daily. Everyone cares about the customer and that they have a great experience. We want it to be streamlined. We want the customer to have access to the information on what is going on with their loan and we want them to be treated like a valuable customer - not a loan file sitting on a desk. We try to keep the customers fully aware of the process of the loan approval and what to expect along the way. In the end, providing customers the highest levels of customer service - treating them honestly and being available is the key to making the process of obtaining a home loan a happy one!
