Laminate wood v carpet

Response

I can only agree with everyone else.  I like hard surfaces better than carpet.  Especially if there are pets involved.  Nice area rugs can always be used in the sitting areas.  www.browntree.net

3 estimates to choose from! Help pls.

Response

Estimate 2 sounds the best to me.  I always tend to go with personal references when I can get them.  As long as the cracks aren't very big, plaster should work fine to fill them.  Was there one contractor that you had a better feeling about than the others?  Trust your instincts.

Home Siding - What is best?

Response

Hardi plank does not soak up and hold water like old lp.  Hardi is your best choice by far.

Lath and Plaster

Response

If it is in good shape I would just leave it.  Removing it is quite a job.

Security issues with French doors?

Response

I forgot to add that it is fairly easy for someone to break the glass and unlock the door, but, it is also easy to kick in a door or break a window.

Security issues with French doors?

Response

I actually always suggest the lever type deadbolts on the inside, which it sounds like you have.  An alarm system and motion lights are a great deterrent to a break in.  I suggest the lever type because if you need to exit the house in an emergency, i.e. a fire, it's much easier to unlock a lever type and get out.  The double cylinder type, key inside and out, are no longer code on new homes.

PEX vs COPPER Plumbing Rehad

Response

I think your plumber is correct.  I'm seeing alot of PEX in the new homes that I inspect.

ASHI customer bill of rights

ASHI has created a new customer bill of rights. It details more of what an ASHI inspector brings to the table. You can view it at my website at www.browntree.net.   I really like that they created this new easier to read format for buyers and sellers.
