Dave Stahl and his staff at the Mortgage X-Change were wonderful to work with on our refinance loan which successfully closed last week.
Previously, I had taken out our 30-year loan and then refinanced 2 years ago with a local mortgage banker here in Austin. I was under the impression I had gotten a pretty good deal. But when I wanted to refinance again with the rates being so low, I realize my local "good deal" was not so good.
Dave was able to offer me a much better rate, and an outstanding credit towards my closing costs.
How did I find Dave? Here on Zillow mortgage rates of course. My wife and I were initially quite nervous about doing this type of transaction through someone who was not in town to hold our hand (Dave's office is near Dallas, we are near Austin). So I asked for references and called three other people who had closed loans with him in the Austin area and all of them had the same great things to say about the timeliness and accuracy of the document prep, and none of the three reported any problems in working with Dave, his staff, or in the closing process.
Dave answers emails and phone calls promptly. Moreover, he is very personable, and takes time to answer all your questions. We went over each line of the GFE and each line of the HUD line by line so he could be sure that I understood it and had no questions. His main request was that we do our side of the transaction promptly as well - as you know, there is a lot of documentation required for a mortgage these days. So we got all our paperwork assembled quickly, and were able to securely transfer it to Dave and his office without a hitch. From that point, Dave or his staff let us know about the progress of each step: underwriting, appraisal status, clear to close, closing, etc.
We closed using a local title company of my choosing whom I had worked with before. Dave's staff had no problems working with the title company of my choice.
The loan closed successfully and now my rate is 7/8% lower than before with basically no closing costs to me. Now, how the servicing of the new loan will be, this depends on who will ultimately buy it, so of course I can't comment yet. But we are very happy that we identified Dave and Mortgage X-Change and could obtain such a great rate on a mortgage and with little hassle. I would not hesitate to recommend him to friends and family (in fact, I already have).
[UPDATE 3/23/2013:] My loan was transferred to Wells Fargo. Could not be happier with that as I was with Wells Fargo to begin with and have had good experience with their loan servicing for the past several years. My one payment to the original servicer was processed with no problem.…More Less
