accuracy

Nikki7-I'm sorry you feel that way & apologize that you haven't received a response yet. That said, we do thank you for claiming your home and updating the public facts. We don't overwrite the public facts with owner inputted facts, but do publish the owner facts right next to the public facts for everyone to see on the home details page. We are working to address the fact that the owner updated facts are not shown in the bubble on the map, but can't give any promises as to when this will be completed. I can also tell you we'll be using owner facts as an input into the Zestimate algorithm later this year, but that's not quite operational yet.It doesn't yet look like you have published an "Estimate" for your home. You can do so by clicking the "Create an estimate" in the upper right of the home details page of this home. This is our way of letting individuals create estimates that take into account additions and upgrades that are not taken into account with the public records, such as a kitchen and bathroom remodel. You can make the estimate either private or public - it's your choice. For more info about Zestimates, please read our "What's a Zestimate?" page - http://www.zillow.com/howto/DataCoverageZestimateAccuracy.htmHope this helps.

Zillow differs from Assessor

JimPeak-Sorry for the misunderstanding. We are not hiding behind our data aggregators -- the issue is with how we built our data infrastructure in the 1st place. We are working on addressing this so that we can change the public property facts, sales transactions, and tax assessment data that we receive on a one-off basis (meaning manually), but it takes many, many man hours of development time to make these changes. Right now, if we made a change at the database level, that data would just be overwritten with the next data import. I hope this explanation helps a little bit.

Jim Avery-I certainly agree - the more frequent the data is updated, the better for everyone. And yes, cost is certainly part of the frequency equation. I do like your suggestion of placing the date that data was last updated -- I'll forward it on to our product team.We opening up the Zillow database for users to correct/update their home facts back in September for this exact reason -- we know the owners ultimately know the most about the house they live in. More info on that release can be found on the Zillow Blog - http://www.zillowblog.com/zillows-database-is-now-open-tell-us-about-your-homes/2006/09/That said, building tools to correct the "actual facts" is a very, very high priority for us.

Zillow differs from Assessor

Jim Avery-I must be missing it, but what is the specific "basement area" question? Are you wondering if we include it in our square footage count?

GardenIsland Realtor-Great suggestion. It's certainly on our wish-list of features to add. I can't promise when we'll get to it, but know that I'm one of the biggest advocates of this feature (since I spend a lot of time in Zillow Discussions) -- David Gibbons and I will be banging down doors until we get it done :).

My Home's Location is Incorrect - Why?
We have three sources of geo-points, which determine where a home shows up on the map. For the details about each of our sources and their accuracy, please take a look at this post on the Zillow Blog - http://www.zillowblog.com ... s/2006/12/Any owner or listing agent is given the option to edit the home's location on the map by navigating to the home details page and clicking the "edit location" link in the tools section on the left side of the page.
