Sold a Single Family home in 2012 for approximately $175K in Pine Hills, Albany, NY.
No one gets the job done like Fraida and her team. (Yes, it's a team, and in selling our house we worked with several members of her staff--all were excellent.) For one thing, she prices houses realistically: initially we had hoped to list our house higher, but her analysis of the terrible Albany market in 2012 was convincing, so we listened to her and were glad we did. The house sold in 6 weeks. She held two open houses during that time (one hosted by Fraida, another by a member of her team), retook photos to ensure the best possible representation of the house online, and constantly paid attention to the foot traffic through our house and reconsidered what to do to get it sold. In other words, the house didn't just sit on the market -- she and her staff were tireless. She was also honest with us from the beginning about what needed to be done to the house and how it should be staged. I think that made a huge difference too. We also were buyer clients of hers years before and were very satisfied with her then.

We used Fraida's office when purchasing a house at the beginning of 2012. We were first time home buyers, and we were not in a rush to buy a house. Lisa, who worked with us, was patient, helpful, and great to work with. She showed us several houses, got a feel for what we were looking for and searched high and low for houses in our price range that met our needs. We ended up with the perfect house, in a great neighborhood, within our price range (which was not very high). We were able to negotiate with the seller on details of the sale, and the staff at Fraida Varah supported us throughout the entire process.
I would also like to address the negative review posted below. They are very clear in the office that they work as a team. This was stated from the first day we began working with them. Each person has tasks that they work on in the office, and they work as a unit. I found this to be highly efficient and everyone in the office was extremely helpful. They have people working in the area they are the most knowledgeable about so that you get the best service possible.
I would recommend Fraida and her team to anyone, and on more than one occasion, I have recommended them to friends and family shopping in the Capital Region.
We connected, but it did not work out. Looking in Guilderland, NY
After seeing good reviews about Fraida - I was compelled to write something as a warmning to other. A friend of mine is presently selling her house "by owner" and asked me to recommend an agent in the area. My first thought was NOT to recommend Fraida. While we had our home listed by another agent, she boldly showed up at the door one Sunday morning with a client. At first we thought she was a "go getter" but quickly learned she would do anything to get a listing. Mistakenly, after our listing with the other agent expired, we signed with her and we literally never saw her again. One of the conditions of our listing with her, was that we were hiring HER - not her staff, to promote, stage open houses and bring in other agents to view the property. She did NOT ONE of these things. Our first agent had very large pictures in the Times Union of our home with wonderful descriptions. Fraida's idea of advertising was an ad so small, we couldn't even find it in the paper - no picture, no description, just the address and times of the open house. Then, she never even showed up for the open house. When we voiced our unhappiness with her employee, she told us Fraida was at another open house and would be there shortly. Some friends of ours who were interested in purchasing the house came over, and this employee became all flustered and said we were not allowed to talk to these people. She quickly got Fraida on the phone, and she told me she would have been there, but she was sick. So what was it, was she at another open house or was she sick???
Another agency ended up bringing a prospective buyer through that purchased the house. NOTHING Fraida did had anything to do with selling it. AND SHE NEVER EVEN SHOWED UP AT THE CLOSING!!!
I would NEVER recommend this woman to anyone - she makes all kinds of promises when she signs you, then never appears again. Just sits back and collects her commission.
Sold a Single Family home in 2009 in Campus Area (University District), Albany, NY.
Fraida sold my house during the peak of the down housing market in less than 6 months. She and her staff were supportive, honest, and a real pleasure to work with. They had contracters available to work on the minor fixes the house needed, which as a single woman, was a huge help for me. They made me feel so at ease that I didn't have to worry about anything. I recommend Fraida and her group for buyers and sellers who are looking for a smooth, worry-free, real estate transaction

Fraida Varah's office came highly recommended by a family member. I contacted them from across the country with very short notice and within days they had a list of properties to view. Just two weeks later I flew from Seattle to Albany and had 7 days to find a house. Lisa Strothenke was friendly and professional. She knew what we were looking for, and drove all over Albany with us showing us homes and found one that suited our needs perfectly. From finding the house on February 15 to closing on the house on March 29, Fraida's team helped us every step of the way. Fraida Varah Real Estate Group is military friendly, fast and efficient. I would tell any family member, friend, or stranger to work with Friada's Varah's office and Lisa Strothenke.
