I am a reasonably new Zillow employee, hired on to support the MS Windows desktop users, as well as to learn to support the Windows servers (eventually). I spent the last three years working in the restaurant industry after the demise of my last tech job, which has given me a solid working understanding of Itallian wine, for which I am thoroughly grateful. I returned to the tech industry subsequent to the birth of my daughter, Molly Coltrane Canwell, because said daughter's arrival has led to an increased need for a stable, daytime job with benefits and weekends/nights off. I am delighted that this should be that job - this is a fantastic company, and a good product, and I have zero dread of coming back to work at the end of each weekend, which is a nice feeling. I toyed with getting into the wine industry, but it felt a little too close to restaurants for my taste.
Other than working here and playing with/feeding/changing my daughter, I am and have been studying the piano, with occasional forays into the world of desktop music production. I like to cook, and to read, and to play first-person shooter video games. I also like to play in the outdoors, which makes living in Seattle, as I do, completely appropriate and convenient. I received a BA from the University of Washington in 1998 for Comparative History of Ideas, a degree which informs my thinking in strange and unexpected ways. And I expect to be marrying my girlfriend Darcy (that's right, daugter first, then marriage - I do things in weird orders) in the next year.
