About Iowa State Home Inspections, LLC

Iowa State Home Inspections is a locally owned and operated home inspection company located in the greater Des Moines area. You will work directly with me, Dave Reynolds.

I started my inspection business in 2002. As I began working with different real estate agents and home buyers, I discovered that there was a definite need for a quality home inspector to represent the Iowa home buyer. Iowa State Home Inspections is certified by The National Association of Certified Home Inspectors (NACHI). We are independent; having no outside influences. We only work for you and your family. We follow the Standards of Practices set by the National Association of Certified Home Inspectors (www.nachi.org). Our experience, training and commitment to your family's new home is why Iowa State Home Inspections should be your first choice for an Iowa Home Inspection.

Here are our credentials:

  • In business since 2002; full-time home inspection experience with over 1,000 home inspections performed
  • We use state of the art equipment including infrared thermal imaging and ultrasound moisture detection
  • Although the state of Iowa does not require licensing, Dave Reynolds is New York State Licensed (Inspector #16000007660)
  • Certified by NACHI (National Association of Certified Home Inspectors)
  • Certified Mold Assessment and Testing by Pro-Lab and IAC2 (International Association of Indoor Air Consultants)
  • Graduate of the Professional Career Development Institutes School of Home Inspection
  • We are Thorough, Professional, and follow the NACHI code of ethics for home inspection
  • Dave has built his own home and understands both new construction and older construction practices
  • We carry ALL the necessary insurance required by the state of Iowa

Ratings & Reviews

Iowa State Home Inspections is a waste of money. The report had lots of pictures, but no content. Under every major system there was only the recommendation to have a contractor investigate. So I paid $295 to be told to have a professional look at the house, I thought that was what the home inspector was for. Dave also told me during the inspection that the plumbing in the basement was not vented properly, and what that meant was that the trap could be siphoned out and we might smell sewer gas, but you just have to run some water in the sink and it is something you live with. Wrong! that is a health hazard and not something you willingly buy. No thanks to Dave, or my realtor, I did not buy the house and I lost money on both fronts, but better than buying a house with low quality work in the basement. I have a family to keep safe and healthy. Dave told me the house was great and there were no concerns. I did have a contractor in on one of the systems other than plumbing, and it wasn't safe either.

Work Description:

General Home Inspection

I first contacted Dave via email, after finding his website very impressive. After 24 hours of no response I followed up with a phone call. He claimed he never got my email and we scheduled a time to meet. He was able to come out right away (within a few days). He had a helper with him. The price was higher than I expected and he required payment upfront. The report was very general but broad. I consider myself a step or two above a "do-it-yourselfer" and I did learn some things about the property, after reading through his 12 page report. Overall I would recommend Dave to a friend.  More Less
