Alright, so this is a little delayed (almost a year), but I have put it off long enough. First off if you need a realtor, Jeanne is fantastic! We had a great experience and we truly love our house and neighborhood. Jeanne definitely made the process easy.
So here are the details: My husband and I had been through two realtors already who really just didn't work out. We went on Zillow and contacted the top two realtors at the time (most amount of stars and most amount of reviewers) and as luck would have it Jeanne was one of them and she got back to us immediately! The first time we met it had snowed a foot the night before, but Jeanne was still up for meeting up with us and trudging through the snow to look at houses. We were a little pressed for time as my husband was commuting a long ways to work each day where we currently lived, so finding a house quickly was a priority... But we are a little picky too, so not too quickly :).
Anyways, we were coming from about an hour away, so Jeanne had arranged to show us 10 houses around the Graduate Hospital area (which is where we thought we thought we wanted to live). One of the houses piqued our interest, but we had never made an offer before, so we were a little hesitant. Jeanne worked with us to put in an offer within a couple of days (we debated a bit whether we should make an offer), however at the same time that we put in an offer another couple had too. We could have pursued bidding on the house, but we really didn't feel too strongly about it, so we decided to not put in any counter offer. Working with the paperwork and such with Jeanne really made us realize what we had to do when we found "the one". So on another trek to the city (I think it snowed again, or at least there was snow everywhere still) we had mentioned a house in the fishtown neighborhood, which we really hadn't considered before, that house turned out not to be what we were looking for, but Jeanne showed us a couple more houses in the neighborhood and we were hooked. Jeanne sent us a guide she created with her team for the area and it was a great way to get introduced to the area. One of the houses in fishtown really piqued our interest and after a second look on the same day, we knew it was the one. We discussed with Jeanne a competitive bid to get the house (Jeanne was great with this letting us know what the comparables were for the area in the last few months) and they accepted.
From there it was pretty smooth sailing. Jeanne and her staff (Big thanks to Zoe!) ensured we got all of the inspections, paperwork and payments to the right places on time. Jeanne was also great with working out our schedule, we had to move up our closing date to fit with my husbands Navy Reserve Annual Training and everyone was able to make that work. Closing was pretty easy, lots of signatures and a walk through of the house to ensure everything was being taken care of that was part of our negotiations.
At the end we had our keys and although we weren't commissioning a ship and the house wasn't brand new we cracked a bottle of champagne against the house to christen our first house! Yeah! Thanks to Jeanne and her team for making it so easy!
Cheers, Irene and Matt
