My fiance and I were in the market for buying our first property a few short months ago and needed to decide on a broker that would not only have our best interests in order but also have the patience we knew one would need while working with us. We wanted to be completely sure when buying a place, and were willing to see probably way more places than any broker would ideally like to show. After hearing about a few stellar recommendations from mutual friends, we decided to go with Matt Laricy.
From the start, Matt put our anxieties at ease. We had a high level meeting in his company's Chicago office and discussed what to be prepared for going forward. Matt took an incredible amount of notes, ranging from locations and price range, to our 'deal breakers' and dream requests. Perhaps most importantly, Matt referred to us all as one team going forward, and he vowed to do everything in his power to make our first home purchase as smooth as possible.
Searching for homes went shorter than expected, as Matt posted new properties in our price range and location desires to our online folder daily. We were able to choose the ones we wanted to see and Matt and his team would schedule them for when we were able to free up some time from work to go walk through them. Throughout this whole process, we knew Matt was not in this to make a sale, he was in this to find us our dream property. We saw a few properties that Matt said 'Even if you wanted to, I wouldn't let you buy this place.' He cited recent comparable units, problems with the building, resale value, potential future upgrade issues, etc. He is truly a master of his craft and was proving to us that we truly were all on the same team.
We finally decided on a 2 Bedroom in River North / River West that was perfect for all of our needs, but slightly above our price range. Here is when the real fun began, as Matt's negotiation skills came out in full force. After a tug of way on price for a few weeks, as well as threatening to walk away, we were able to both agree on a price. However, when our appraisal came in low, Matt put his foot down and eventually got a total of 10% off of the buyer's original asking price.
The closing process could not have been easier for us with Matt, however we could not say the same for our financing. Our mortgage firm had a few setbacks internally, and we were worried that their firm issues would cause our financing to stall, or at worst fall through. Matt was able to not only contact our mortgage firm, but also to keep them on track on a daily basis. We ended signing the papers and moving in 48 hours later to our beautiful new home.
I highly recommend Matt Laricy for all of your real estate needs. He will always keep your best interests at heart, and will do everything in his power to get your everything that you could possibly desire. He is honest, incredibly hard working, and as I mentioned earlier, a true master of his craft. I will be using Matt for all future real estate transactions and anyone reading this would be wise to do the same.
