Managing Broker/Partner, e-PRO (9 years experience)
My fiance and I were in the market for buying our first property a few short months ago and needed to decide on a broker that would not only have our best interests in order but also have the patience we knew one would need while working with us. We wanted to be completely sure when buying a place, and were willing to see probably way more places than any broker would ideally like to show. After hearing about a few stellar recommendations from mutual friends, we decided to go with Matt Laricy.
From the start, Matt put our anxieties at ease. We had a high level meeting in his company's Chicago office and discussed what to be prepared for going forward. Matt took an incredible amount of notes, ranging from locations and price range, to our 'deal breakers' and dream requests. Perhaps most importantly, Matt referred to us all as one team going forward, and he vowed to do everything in his power to make our first home purchase as smooth as possible.
Searching for homes went shorter than expected, as Matt posted new properties in our price range and location desires to our online folder daily. We were able to choose the ones we wanted to see and Matt and his team would schedule them for when we were able to free up some time from work to go walk through them. Throughout this whole process, we knew Matt was not in this to make a sale, he was in this to find us our dream property. We saw a few properties that Matt said 'Even if you wanted to, I wouldn't let you buy this place.' He cited recent comparable units, problems with the building, resale value, potential future upgrade issues, etc. He is truly a master of his craft and was proving to us that we truly were all on the same team.
We finally decided on a 2 Bedroom in River North / River West that was perfect for all of our needs, but slightly above our price range. Here is when the real fun began, as Matt's negotiation skills came out in full force. After a tug of way on price for a few weeks, as well as threatening to walk away, we were able to both agree on a price. However, when our appraisal came in low, Matt put his foot down and eventually got a total of 10% off of the buyer's original asking price.
The closing process could not have been easier for us with Matt, however we could not say the same for our financing. Our mortgage firm had a few setbacks internally, and we were worried that their firm issues would cause our financing to stall, or at worst fall through. Matt was able to not only contact our mortgage firm, but also to keep them on track on a daily basis. We ended signing the papers and moving in 48 hours later to our beautiful new home.
I highly recommend Matt Laricy for all of your real estate needs. He will always keep your best interests at heart, and will do everything in his power to get your everything that you could possibly desire. He is honest, incredibly hard working, and as I mentioned earlier, a true master of his craft. I will be using Matt for all future real estate transactions and anyone reading this would be wise to do the same.
Bought a Condo home in 2014 in Printers Row, Chicago, IL.
We just closed on our home today and I am here writing a review for Matt! He has been brilliant and I honestly can't imagine going through our first home purchase as easily as we did had it not been for Matt.
Right from the start, he has been honest and upfront, tells you things as they are, no bs. He gives you his opinions but lets you make your own decisions. The "hunt" was fun as well because you always have a great conversation!
Once we made a decision on a home, he was great with the negotiation process! We are happy with the way it went and the price we paid - I think it was fair.
When it comes to all the processes for closing on the home, his referrals to the various parties involved (lender, attorney, inspector, et al) are extremely helpful.
A special mention for processes and follow ups - haven't seen anything like it. He is always on top of everything and you won't have to wait for more than 5-10 minutes to get a response to your email!
Matt did a fantastic job listing and selling my property. The entire process was extremely smooth and professional. Most importantly, Matt was able to sell the property above the asking price in less than a week. He demonstrated deep understanding of the local market and open, honest with his opinions about the property's value. I would highly recommend Matt to anybody looking for an agent in Chicago and will certainly use him again if the need arises.
Sold a Condo home in 2014 for approximately $375K in Lake View, Chicago, IL.
Matt was extremely helpful during both the sale of my property and search for a new one. He was helpful in getting my place set up properly for a sale, and showed the place pretty well.
During our search, he helped find us a place we could live in and love. He helped us narrow down places based on layout, price, building standards and more. It was always useful to hear his opinion on resale value and how well the property would stand the test of time.
Matt also had some great contacts for both the inspection and lending process. I initially used my bank, but after they became quite unresponsive I tried his recommended guy -- we finished everything within a few days, got a great rate and had a smooth process.
I've already recommended Matt to friends, and will continue to do so.
Bought a Condo home in 2014 in Near East Side, Chicago, IL.
Matt was very professional and thorough during the whole process of my condo purchase in Lakeshore East. He offered great insight as far as the housing market goes in Chicago as well as for my unit at The Chandler. Matt's unmatched expertise and connections with other realtors made the process feel very efficient and seamless.
Matt is extremely responsive and personable. After contacting him I was able to look at a condo the next day, and had an offer ready that night. He stayed on top of everything throughout the whole buying process, and continually followed through. He is very knowledgable of the market, and is honest. Very organized. Would recommend to anyone buying-especially first time buyers!
Bought a Condo home in 2014 for approximately $775K in Gold Coast, Chicago, IL.
I'm lucky Matt was my real estate. I trust Matt as much as I trust my brother and family . He always there to help. He is very honest. He helped me in each steps until I bought my apt. I really wish I can rate him with more than 5 starts .
Bought a Condo home in 2014 for approximately $350K in Dearborn Park, Chicago, IL.
I met Matt after doing several area searches on Trulia and similar sites. He was the only Realtor out of many that responded to my request for information with an offer to discuss the entire process over coffee. As a first-time buyer, I appreciated that Matt didn't just ask when I was available to look at properties (as all the others did), but rather walked me through what to expect. He made sure I understood what was happening, which made the decision to work with him an easy one.
Matt listened to exactly what we were looking for, and he was honest with us if we saw something he didn't think was the best fit. After looking at hundreds of properties online, we ended up putting in an offer for the sixth condo we saw in person.
For us, the frustration came when in the process of closing the deal. The seller's Realtor was extremely unorganized and frustrating, but Matt took all of the dirty work and got our questions answered, shielding us from a few frustrating people along the way.
Matt was responsive to a fault, as he was often answering my "middle of the night because I can't stop thinking about this" emails in an almost immediate fashion.
I'm extremely type-A, organized and inquisitive. I'm picky and I know I can be demanding (sorry, Matt!), but he was patient with me and let me cover all my bases, which I really appreciated.
I highly recommend Matt to anyone looking for a place to call their own in Chicago, especially first-timers!
