Proper "staging" absolutely helps a home sell faster and for more money. New home builders spend tens of thousands of dollars making sure a home appeals to the emotions of a buyer. Space is maximized, the home isn't cluttered, the furniture fits the room, the colors are generally neutral, etc.  Buyers absolutely buy their homes with emotion, and staging helps a home by making a home more comfortable during  showings and showing off a homes best qualities. Having said that, staging doesn't have to cost a lot of money. The basics would be to neutralize the colors, de-personalize, de-clutter, and do a great job cleaning your home. Treat your home like a car you're about to trade in!
