Melvin is the owner and qualifying broker for Red Hills Realty LLC. As a child, his passion was for the board game Monopoly. Since that time, he has worked hard to refine his skills in the finance and real estate arenas. In 1997, he started his own real estate investment company. For educational purposes and to help with investment opportunities, he obtained his real estate license.

In 2003 - 2004, he and his wife Jill remodeled a home in the Hollywood section of Homewood. Melvin obtained his builders license so he could be his own general contractor and to learn as much as he could about the home building process. According to Jill, “We took a perfectly functional three bedroom, two bath ranch style home and destroyed it.” The end result was a two story dream home with ten foot ceilings, five bedrooms, and four baths.

Since moving to the area, Melvin and Jill have become very involved in their community. They are actively involved in their church, Our Lady of Sorrows in Homewood. They are well known at area restaurants. They are on a first name basis with several of the owners and staff. Melvin explains, “Jill is a great cook, we just enjoy eating out, a lot.” Jill, a former collegiate tennis player at Nebraska and assistant pro at the Birmingham Country Club, still plays competitively and is on several local teams. Melvin is a physical fitness enthusiast. As a member of the Mountain Brook YMCA, he works out six times a week, alternating running eight miles a day with weight lifting.
