I was reviewing Zillow in connection with our plan to refinance our home, when I noticed an ad for mortgages with rates and fees that seemed too low to be real. Testimonials in the ad spoke of mortgage broker named Ramon Walker, but seemed too good to be true. I thought, “who is this guy Ramon? He can’t be that great.” Well, he was and is. I telephoned Ramon, who was certainly charming, but also very knowledgeable and straightforward. He explained how and why his business method produces mortgages at reduced rates and fees. I had one reservation about the appraisal fee that was somewhat higher than others in advertised mortgages. I had already spoken with several brokers about their unimpressive offerings, but Ramon didn’t at all seem like that ilk, and I wanted to see if his pitch could be true. I’m very glad I did. Ramon’s representations proved true in every respect. It took about 35 days from first contact to closing. Ramon, and his assistant Tracy were available whenever needed, without delay, to instruct about what was needed next, explain things we didn’t understand, and resolve the inevitable snags. Thanks again Ramon and Tracy, for all your friendly and professional help. I hope you’re available to help us with a future mortgage should we need one, and please accept our best wishes for good fortune.

In September I was in the process of refinancing our house with a local loan broker recommended by a real estate agent we knew. Through the process his answers to my questions were vague and often tangential. The rate he quoted, initially 4.5% with $6000 in fees and points had reached 4.8% by the time we locked though rates in general were not rising that fast. Two hours after the lock that I verbally authorized at 4.8% he told me the rate was actually 4.875% not 4.8%. I was not happy. The next morning I found Mt. Diablo Lending online on Zillow. They were advertising loans at substantially better terms. Their rates were (and later remained) among the lowest of all those advertising on Zillow. Skeptical, I submitted information to their website and within 20 minutes Ramon called me and spent 45 minutes discussing loans, rates, his fees (exactly how much and how and where they are generated under various scenarios), and why he could do substantially better for me than the other guy. Totally transparent and upfront. Every one of my questions answered. Instead of 4.875% with $6000 in upfront fees he offered 4.5% with $3000 in up front fees or 4.625% with no fees and no points. I submitted my application and initial documents over the next few days. Rates did rise a bit during that time but we locked at 4.75%, again with no points or up front fees. Throughout the ensuing process Ramon and Tracy, his assistant, were always quick to respond to questions, usually answering the phone directly when called and, if not, generally returning calls or e-mails within an hour or less. Banks today require a lot of documentation which can be a burden, but Ramon and Tracy were always there to guide me through it and virtually all documentation can be submitted by e-mail or fax. Over the next several weeks during this process rates dropped again and for a very reasonable fee to the bank we ultimately re-locked at 4.5% again with no fees no points. Additionally, during the documentation process it was discovered that a prior loan that we had paid off in 2005 never had a reconveyance issued. This threatened our refinance. The bank in question maintained they had no record of the old loan. In spite of this, on the strength of the settlement statement we had for the prior loan, Ramon and the title company were able to clear the lien so the new loan went through. But most impressive to me was that even though nothing more needed to be done on their part after the loan went through, they persisted and were ultimately able to convince the bank in question to issue the reconveyance. Service above and beyond.

I closed with a 30 year loan at 3.65 % so I'm very happy. I know I was asking a million questions but it was because I tried to refi before (not with Mount Diablo) & got burnt on the appraisal so this time I was cautious cause if we lost another $450 on the appraisal I think I would have called them up not only to refi but to find me a new place to live...I would have been out

Very good experience, thanks again

Very favorable experience. Promised a lender credit of 1 point and delivered on a 3.5% mortgage. Closed in less than 45 days. No duplicated requests for documents and a pretty efficient system for uploading docs on to their site. I did everything with pdf's. No FAXes, which was great. Even the notary that came for signing was super efficient and pleasant.

Ramon was a great help in getting our refi done. When lower-than-expected appraisal pushed us out of our first choice loan, Ramon was able to find us a different product that met all our needs now and has the ability to work for us in the long-term. He was a pleasure to work with and I learned a great deal about the mortgage business in the process. I've recommended Mount Diablo to a friend who has already closed his loan with Ramon. I'll be back too.

We have had the pleasure in working with Ramon for a number of years. He helped us purchase our first home and helped us refinace as well as a fast sell on our home. He has always been very responsive and found us the lowest interest rate and in a timely manner was able to get our payments down. In the sell of our home he was able to get us all the information, answered every single one of our questions and concerns we had. With in a week of being on the market we had a number of offers, and he worked hard to get it closed in time so we didnt have to pay double morgages. I would recommend Ramon to anybody who is looking for a personable, perfessional who knows his job inside and out! Always a pleasure working with him!

I was very happy with Ramon Walker and his loan officer Tracy Villarin. They responded quickly to any questions I had and seemed to moved the process along very rapidly. There were no surprises and they got the process closed in just over a month - even with the Christmas/New Year period in the middle. That's pretty impressive these days.

If you've done a refi before, you'll know there is a lot of paperwork, proof of assets and income and employment checks that brokers and underwriters need to do, so no one is going to make this painless! But Mount Diablo seemed to have got nearly everything down to a email/print/scan. I would definitely recommend them.
