Why start thread? NPR Already Did. NPR already reviewed book as well! Even the book signing already occured! If you want to read them, The link should still be on The National Public Radio Web Site!
I went to thehttp://www.bls.gov/CPIwebsite. I still can't find the weightings used in the CPI calulations.I downloaded hundreds of pages of data including the consumer survey information and average price data. But still can't find out what the government thinks I should be buying each year. It is also interesting they use average price. I tend to shop based on "minimum price"; or close to minimum price in a given area. And if people keep changing the weightings based on household pattern shifts as things get "too expensive"; that means we are now comparing "victory coffee" (1984 book) <vinegar> to real coffee, and "corn syrup" to real chocolate, or brused lemons (1984 book) to Navel Oranges. And some things have become so expensive they are no longer offered for sale. For example, "Head and Shoulders Concentrate" in the tube. Now you get a watered down product with all the ingredients substituted and they are even hydrogenating it to make it take more space just like was done with all those "transfats".
Multi-identity poster's repair questions frustration - enough... The NPR site still accepts posts. I should look up the link. They said a sequal may result.
It's not raining any around here. Wouldn't read a book of those. Three radio programs was plenty enough. No intent to bug anyone reading. Jim has some strange ideas sometimes. Though often agreeing, we sound opposite. Six word sentences doesn't fit me.
Pasadena is definitely experiencing the "use it or lose it" building mentality. Often it takes two or more years to get through the planning/permitting process. One "project" presently under construction with over 800 so called "luxury" homes had been in the discussion and negotiation stage for well over 10 years. And then the local weekly paper writes an article about a homeless woman sleeping in a suitcase on the sidewalk just in front of the construction and provides a photo. Even though the "inclusionary housing ordinance" means there will be over 80 units "set aside" for "low income", it is still more expensive than what is available elsewhere and what people are willing/able to pay; it is really just "government controlled housing" and has nothing to do with being "affordable" except by the California State definition of "affordable housing".
minimumwage.com is registered to Networksolutions.com and redirects to www.epionline.org So we will probably need a different E-mail address for sending those resumes for doing menial tasks for minimum wage. But I can't imagine any errand that it would be worth paying minimum wage to a former Realestate agent to do, nor could I think of enough errands to keep someone busy even part time.
Hydrogen peroxide worked well when poured into a small fountain and run. I don't remember the concentration; I think I just poured half a bottle into the existing water and ran for a couple hours. Afterward, I just dumped the water and wiped the exposed surfaces. It looked and ran like new.
I'm sure you heard how the California Supreme court decided last week to arbitrarily re-write a dictionary entry, based on someone's testimony that "separate is NOT equal", and that if mixed race marrages were prevously denied, but are allowed now, it must be discrimination to not allow same sex marriages. (I still want to know if that means men cannot be denied the opportunity to use women's restrooms since they are so certain that "separate is NOT equal"). But if the judges state that marrage cannot be denied to same sex couples, what happens on line 2 of IRS form 1040?If they are "legally married" how can they be denined the opportunity to submit their tax form as "Married filing jointly"? Yet the instructions are clear and they agree with the dictionary definition:"For federal tax purposes, a marriage means ONLY a legal union between a man and a woman as husband and wife". So, "equal" is not "equal" regardless of altering the dictionary... Is this going to lead to a federal law suit, or are people just going to fill out the forms the way they want and wait for the IRS to complain?
