I am SO grateful that we met Rob and Atieno. We went to a homebuying workshop they gave when we were just starting to think about buying a house and long before we had the savings to do so but they still took the time to talk us through what to expect with the process and different loan options we may have been qualified for. Rob called me as soon as he heard about one amazing forgivable loan option and urged me to go to the event where I could sign up. Because of his call, we ended up with a forgivable $20K loan that covered my down payment and closing costs. Let me spell that out for you in another way. We managed to purchase the house without spending a dime! (Besides inspection costs, of course) I doubt this is a common occurrence but just want to use this point to illustrate how responsive and invested in your success Rob and Atieno are.
We ran into a few frustrations through the process - we had a contract on a house that fell through when the seller decided not to sell; listing agents that didn't return calls or respond to offers (!); and general seller/listing agent shenanigans - but Rob (who we worked with primarily) was a rockstar advocate and had our backs at every step. He understood our urgency to purchase a place, sent us daily updates with relevant listings, and made himself available to meet us at promising listings with short notice. He quickly understood what we were looking for and never pushed for us to accept less or settle. When it came to purchasing the home we ended up in, we ran into a small hurdle when the appraised amount came back significantly less than our offer. Since the banks won't approve a loan for more than the appraised value, the seller had to agree to sell the home for less than what we had offered in order for the deal to go through. Once again, Rob pulled some expert negotiating skills and got them to agree to the lower price, a win-win in the end for us as buyers.
Inevitably, you work with a few different people when buying a house - the home inspector, the lender, etc. Rob and Atieno were able to recommend excellent people that they have good working relationships with, which also helped the process go smoothly. All this to say that I couldn't recommend Rob and Atieno enough! Not to mention the awesome team they have working with them at DC Home Buzz!
