I saw some open houses where it would not take much effort to steal stuff. Laptops, cameras etc. laying around. Owners were not there and agents did not care. Most houses for sale seem to be vacant those days, though...
Scott,I live near Sacramento, CA. And I never wrote that "agents in general do not care" did I? But hey... as much as I dislike being followed, if there is valuable stuff laying around and the agent never leaves the kitchen... something is wrong.
I thought what I said was pretty clear: I've seen open houses where there was valuable stuff laying around, and the showing agent(s) never left the kitchen.
John,The "lookers" you are getting are probably exactly that - lookers. If I lived in your area, I might be one of them. I go to open houses every once in a while, just to get to know different neighborhoods, house styles etc. This knowledge will be handy when I am ready to buy. It is a great market for a future buyer! ;-)
"Now my point. It IS the time IF someone WANTS to buy a home to figure out what that house is WORTH TO THEM and OFFER it! "Great in theory, but in practice asking price is a good indication of how low an offer will be accepted... isn't it? Then, there is the "I AM NOT GIVING IT AWAY!" talk. I am not giving away thirty years of my work either, but I do not abuse every seller if I do not like the asking price :-)
