Which is the better choice?

All good comments - thanks to all who responded. My concern with the investment aspect is that I just lost so much on a house I sold in Cleveland when I moved here last year. And I"m pretty sure I'll be transferred to New York at some point (within 10 years) so I just want to be careful that I'm purchasing the most resalable propery and I've heard that Naperville is never a problem because of the schools.  I'm currently looking into Oswego and Montgomery. They seem nice. I've got to be able to get to a park and ride as I depend on Metra when I'm in town. Next I will look into Plainfield. I know there's a park and ride at 95th and Book Road with easy access to Plainfield.

Anyone have Info on HomeTown Aurora?

Why are there so many homes for sale in this subdivision and why are the values dropping so dramatically? Why are they priced so low to begin with? It seems like such a nice concept and such a nice subdivision? Does anyone know if there are problems with the buliding materials?

Which is the better choice?

I am currently considering purchase of a single family home or condo in the suburban Chicago market. It appears that I have two choices. Buy a very small property without a basement that barely meets my needs (1100 SQ FT or less) in an area (Naperville) that has held value and continues to hold value even though the neighborhood is less than desirable -OR- buy a beautiful single family home 1800-2000 SQ FT that perfectly meets my needs in a nice neighborhood 'across the tracks' in Aurora with declining market value according to the charts on Zillow.   If I'm going to stay in the home for 10 years or so, does a temporary decline really matter?
