I’ve worked with David to purchase two homes in the last 8 years. One of the homes purchased was for me and my wife and another home more recently for my aging parents. I can safely say that David’s professionalism made both purchases go extremely smooth. When we purchased our first home we were fairly unfamiliar with the market (Monterey Park) and were not sure what would be a good purchase, we had attended some open houses prior to working with David, but were really unsure of the marketplace. David’s experience and expertise helped us avoid making a couple of purchases that wouldn’t have met our needs, he pointed out the pitfalls and issues that we hadn’t thought of. For example one of the homes was moving too close to the edge of a hill. We dodged a bullet on that one.
David also really has a strong vision for the potential of homes. In the area we were focused on purchasing in there are a lot of older homes that need some remodeling, David provides extremely valuable advice on what work should be done and the potential costs. He also has a list of reliable contractors.
David also makes the purchase process extremely easy when dealing with the purchase documents, city inspections, property inspections etc. He knows exactly what to do, I always felt comfortable that the details were being handled.

David was a gift from heaven as far as my family is concerned. My Mother had passed away and we needed to sell the house. My Father had already relocated to an assisted living home. My parents had lived in Monterey Park for about 60 years. This was the only house our family knew. There were things that needed to be taken care of in order to sell the house. Everything from cleaning, painting, structural issues and making sure certain things we up to code. Of course none of us live in the area any more, and we all have very busy lives. David helped us every step of the way! I actually never met him. My Sister had met him in the beginning but everything was done via email. David has an incredible way about him. He is patient and yet firm in making sure things get done so he can be of the utmost service to his clients. Ours were heightened circumstances in that we were still getting over an emotional loss, while trying to take care of business at the same time.

David and Yasuko Chu are without a doubt the best real estate agents we have ever used. My wife and I were selling her parents home of almost 50 years. We live in the San Fernando Valley and knew no realtors out in the San Gabriel Valley. By sheer good luck, we met David and Yasuko at an open house. After seeing the condition of the home he assisted us in getting the right contractors at very reasonable prices to get the house into sellable condition. David also met with all of the contractors to get the work done, to get the city to sign off on the property condition and generally to help us get the home sold quickly. Living 45 miles away, he saved us many trips to the property to meet with the contractors.
With their help, the property was listed on a Friday night and by Sunday night we had nine offers, all over the asking price. We were very happy that it was one of his clients who were the ones who got to purchase it, not only because they were the perfect buyers for the home, but because they truly earned the commission on both sides. My wife and I have used four or five different realtors in the San Fernando Valley over the last twenty years and none came even close to the level of service and care for his clients that we received from David and Yasuko.
Unlike many realtors that we have dealt with, they were very hands on, approachable, responsive to our issues and concerns and respectful of my wife’s parents needs in selling their home.

You have to know that it is a brutal market for buyers out there right now: inventory is at creepy lows (with only 30 houses showing up at MLS per month, as opposed to 300 just a year before) and buyers hunting at all time high due to low interest rates. We submitted bid after bid ABOVE asking price only to be beaten time and time again by cash buyers. Seven months later, we were past desperate, and have become used to being rejected. But then David showed me this house. He told me to google map it before we saw it. I did and what happened was .. I think my heart did cartwheels and bursted a little. I was in love. I knew that was the house that was going to break my heart if I didn't get it.
Pause. I only had 20% down. I was a salad bowl of feelings: happy, worry, scared of not knowing, fear of rejection.
David instructed me to write a heartfelt letter to the seller, and submitted a bid what I felt the house was worth. What I lacked at that moment was a voice of reason, I was just a ball of emotion. And David was that for me. A professional voice.
He held a hell of an open house that weekend for The House of My Dreams (to my dismay). So many cars went in and out, husbands checked out the garage, kids sat on the porch, wives looking at the view. They were attracted by the shiny signs he put up, the looming REMAX balloon, the pretty pictures he put on MLS, the shiny super sturdy flyer. I was sad and worried.
I had faith in David. I have been honest about how crazy I was about the house. I hope he would present to the seller how serious my husband and I are about it.
But he did more than that. I believe that David truly spoke for us. It was as if he channeled all my hopes for this house and communicated that to the seller.
David texted me Monday night at 9 pm that he would call in ten minutes.
Ten minutes of not knowing is long. I played it cool infront of my husband for three minutes. But then a fear washed over me.. and I told my husband "it's bad news. What do you think?" He said "No. If anything it's good news. If it's bad, David would wait till the next day."
And it was good news. Seller accepted.

Also, David is a class above other agents. He is professional from appearance, demeanor, and service. For example, I love pictures of the houses he sells. I'm actually framing the flyer. His open houses kick butt with signs everywhere and lovely Yasuko welcoming the lookie loos. I considered sabotaging his open house, but David's reputation is on the line, and he's serious about that. So my husband said if he finds out, he would NOT be amused. Anyways, I'm eternally grateful I worked with David.

This review is hard for me to write only because I (and my wife), think so highly of the Chu's. I love Monterey Park, I think it is the most wonderful city on earth and if you want to buy or sell a home in Monterey Park, then there are just no better agents than the Chu's. I say this with the disclosure that some of my most loved family members are licensed agents too and I personally hold a California brokers license (dre lic#01354760). Nonetheless, the truth in my opinion is that David and Yasuko (and their son Brandon) hold themselves to a level of values beyond the industry and beyond what many people hold themselves to -- values that I find myself aspiring too.
My wife and I did try to buy a home in the Brightwood area of Monterey Park for a number of years before we went with David and Yasuko and we did buy another home in Monterey Park with other agents (again our agent was a family member of mine). We were unsuccessful in buying a home in Brightwood for any number of reasons including how complicated the Monterey Park area can be (languages, cultures, demand for homes, low inventory, etc.). David and Yasuko solved these issues and have become what I consider to be trusted confidants regarding real estate and the area.
The home we did purchase was complicated by a construction loan and permitted plans produced during escrow. The Chu's handled the transaction with grace, poise, tenacity, perseverance and professionalism. It was quite extraordinary. Since that time, I have been to many of the Chu's open houses and have witnessed their consistent productive professionalism.
Maybe my biggest compliment of the Chu's is that I trust them.
Hiring David and Yasuko was the greatest decision we made in our search for our first house. They weren't your typical real estate agents, but rather, they were trusted advisors who understood the market we were trying to buy in. As we grew impatient with finding a house, David and Yasuko made sure we did not settle on any house. They wanted us to find the perfect house, and went above and beyond to help us do so.
