I believe it would. You merely need to threaten to file a RESPA complaint and the lender should cover their error.
Another verification of employment is done right before closing. I believe you would lose the loan. 18 years experience owning a mortgage company.

You should start saving money before you purchase a home. You need not only a down payment but should have an emergency fund for the inevitable issues that occur. Owning is a lot different from renting.
What is your credit score?
