The reason the house price is relatively stable is that the jobs base here in the Silicon (now also called Solar) Valley is increasing and close-in real estate is fixed. Nothing like Fresno where there is so much building going on and houses were bought to be "flipped" in a short time. I am not aware of anyone who bought mature houses in order to resell them quickly. Now if we were in a recession, then house values will slip, because jobs will be shrinking. Our area is the hub of activity in semiconductor and solar chips, stem cell research and high technology (computers, software, GPS Iphone) of all kinds. Local television does not have commercials for Deere Tractors or manure sales. If you are looking for an engineering job, you can't do any better than Northern ( more central ) California.

I am a retired engineer and my wife of 41 years works for a local private school called Carden Academy. She will be retiring this year (2008) and we would like to sell out and move to Fresno to be closer to our 3 grandchildren. In the meantime I am using the Zillow site to pre-market our property prior to actually listing it with a broker.
