The service actually was from 2012 to 2013, despite what the Year of service says. Throughout the whole way, Ellen remained just as committed to helping me, as this process took longer than I expected, though no fault to her. Understand she works with a wide range of listings, from one million plus homes to co-ops like mine, and, believe me, my co-op was nowhere near the price of a celebrity home. But it didn't matter because she treated me and my purchase with the same dedication and seriousness as any home. She really went above and beyond, doing what she can to move along the process. I don't know if any other person in her business goes the extra mile in the fashion she did. But if they do, it's a diminutive number.
How do you know I'm being sincere and honest? I'll tell you: This was my first buying experience and it took much longer than I expected and the last leg of it was a disgrace. Unfortunately, I didn't have the best buying experience; it was not what I expected at all. I learned quite a bit from this process, though, and will use the information I learned in the coming years. But, again, Ellen was not a negative contributor. However, there were other parties in the process that caused me great frustration. But I couldn't be happier with Ellen holding my hand throughout the whole ordeal. As unfortunate as the whole experience was towards the end, it would've been massively worse without people like Ellen going to bat for me.
I would highly recommend Ellen, especially for a first-time home buyer like myself. If I can offer any advice to other first-time home buyers, make sure you get things in writing, be assertive and aggressive with people to get things done. For example, with a co-op or condo, if it is urgent that you speak with someone in the management office, call as many times as you can until they are so sick of you that they have to call you back. Who cares if they think you're a jerk, it's your money and your time! Finally, as one famous pro wrestler's mantra decrees: DTA, Don't Trust Anybody. I don't literally mean it, because you need to have some foundation of trust with your circle of people, but don't take everything as gospel. Be cautious and don't be afraid to ask questions. You should rely on your gut, your instinct. If something doesn't smell or look right, your hunch is probably right. Why is this so important? Because when you have so many talking heads around you, even those within your trusted circle, ultimately, you need to trust and rely on yourself.
To circle it back to Ellen, you do need good people around you. I'm grateful that she was one of those people in this arduous process and, if I choose to buy another home within her jurisdiction, she'll be the first to know. She really spent A LOT of time with me and that was wonderful for a rookie home buyer like me. Ultimately, I am happy with the purchase, despite the shortcomings.…More Less
