As mentioned, this would completely depend on your neighborhood. Are the majority of homes on your street much larger than your's? Or would adding this addition make you the big house on the block? If your house would stand out like a sore thumb, don't do it.Obviously, another big concern is structure. Many homes simply don't have the structure necessary to add another level on top. Be sure to consult with a structural engineer.
Your utility companies will most likely have their own contractors do the work. But first, you'll want to go to your city or county building safety&zoning departments to make sure you can get the necessary permits to have the work done.
The answer is going to depend on a bunch of variables. When it comes down to it, carpet vs laminate is purely buyer's taste. First, what's the price range of your home? Do you have an upper end home where all of your competition has a real wood floor? If so, I'd hesitate to put in laminate.Second, what rooms are you going to use it in and what type of flooring will the laminate adjoin? If you already have wood floors in your house, don't run laminate up against it, that'll just look tacky. If you do end up going with a laminate, don't buy the cheap laminate. The look and feel of it ends up coming out really cheap, and the finish starts to wear quickly.
Would adding a second floor make sense financially for my home?
