Going Green is a "Practice" not a "Perfect"
I grew up in Seattle, but have lived in the Bay Area for the past twenty years. I grew up sailing, both competitively and for leisure. Settling in the Bay Area is natural because of my love of water. It has also been a natural progression to gravitate toward the Green Movement.
Growing up in the 1970's, conserving water and gas or oil was part of what we did, but in the excesses of the 1980's people seemed to forget everything that was learned. By the 1990's, everyone had a Jeep Cherokee or Ford Ranger. People looked the part of environmentalists by wearing hiking boots and Anorak jackets, but in reality it was a very wasteful time.
I didn't know anything much about Global Warming, I just knew that the Southern California beaches were filled with oil and swimming off the boat seemed reckless. [Note to self, when the storm drain is labeled Flows to Bay, that means this one.] So what is flowing? What is within my control? Soap from washing my car? Roundup used on the driveway weeds? Not at my house.
I am not an evangelist for the environment. I notice that my friends and clients all want to preserve our Bay Area way of life. I am just here as a cheerleader and when I can help, an advisor.
Starting Fresh? Check out my blog for ideas that will enliven your home for the New Year. I practice Green Real Estate. Going green is a "Practice" not a "Perfect." I encourage you to begin.
