Former Relatives of former owner
I am very familiar with the home at 44 Maple Avenue in Highwood, Illinois. My uncle and aunt owned the home until the mid-50s. I spent most of my days playing there with my cousins, Richard and Nancy. The house has 3 bedrooms, and a beautiful finished basement. It had a wine cellar, which may have been converted to something else by the current owners. There were 2 bathrooms upstairs and a powder room on the main floor off of the kitchen. There may be an additional bathroom in the basement, I don't recall. There is a great little den off of the living room. It would make a great little nook for reading or an office. There was a fireplace in the basement. There was a formal dining room. Counting the little den, there were 7 rooms. The house is solid brick and the walls are plaster. It is a house that was made to last. It is elegant and a wonderful place to raise a family. The yard was a good size. Many hours and garden parties were held there. We kids built snow forts in the back yard. I lived at 205 High Street, also in Highwood. If I could buy our old apartment, I surely would. At the time it was an apartment, but I think it was converted to condominium units. The houses in Highwood were mostly built by Italian immigrants from the same region of northern Italy. They were tradesmen in masonry, brick work, plaster, marble, etc. They built things to last and to look good forever. If you go to Highwood you will see the same streets and homes. The views haven't changed much over the years. It would be nice if you had a way to get info or CORRECTED info for a property from other family members who may NOT be the current owners yet have a lot of knowledge of the property.
