Jo Meacham, the principal of Urban Kitchens, holds a master's degree in architecture and historic preservation from the University of Oklahoma.
Jo began her career in planning and preservation with the City of Oklahoma City. Since founding Urban Kitchens in 1999, Jo has designed and built hundreds of kitchens in the historic areas of Oklahoma City, including Heritage Hills, Mesta Park, Edgemere Park, and Crown Heights, as well as Edmond, Norman, and throughout the state.
Recent projects include the Seiber Apartments in Midtown, The Hill at Bricktown, and The Brownstones at Maywood Park, near Bricktown.
While early projects focused on housing built prior to WWII, many of today's projects are linked to the Mid Century Modern style of architecture. Almost every style today has a little "modern" combined with a more traditional foundation. Loft style kitchens are now appearing in century old homes. The desire for an open living plan is also influencing the "new kitchen."
Jo's background in architecture and historic preservation provide make her uniquely qualified to design and build a kitchen that references the existing architectural context, meets even the most stringent technical demands, and embodies the personality and aesthetic of the client.
