Are granite countertops so over?

Hello,

 

I would like to update my kitchen  a little nothing extreme,  it is very 80's and a complete plain Jane.......the cabinets are good,  not modern,  however,  I am thinking there must be something I can do to give it a face lift,  ie,  beautiful  counter tops and floor and paint the cabines and change the light.   How does that sound or do you have a better suggestion?
