Rash of Break-ins

Heads up, fellow Magnolians: I got an e-mail last night saying there have been random break-ins around Magnolia recently. One happened on 37th (near Barrett St). Here are the details:

Just found out some friends were burglarized yesterday between 6-8 pm. They left the house, drove to the airport and back and returned to chaos. Everything thrown all over, every drawer opened, laptops, keys to cars and house, jewelry, etc. all stolen.

The thieves got in through the backdoor with some kind of a crowbar. Apparently just shredded the door.

The house is on 37th, off Barrett, in a very visible location but with a quiet alley on the east side.

They surmise the thieves were watching the house waiting for them to leave.

removing trees

I hate to be vague, but the price can vary by where you live, the type of tree, the size of tree, the difficulty in removing it, etc. I hate to be vague with you, but, it kind of depends on a lot of things. I would call a tree service to get an estimate -- they are usually free.

Dry Rot Around Window Sill

My 1940s ranch house has an exterior window with some dry rot in the sill section. One expert said I need to remove the entire piece and replace it. Another said to just cut out the dry rot section. My question: What's the risk in just cutting out the dry rot?

How Do You Get Rid of Slugs?

It sounds like beer is the best solution, although if my cat or dog gets into the beer, I might have a tipsy pet on my hands. Thanks for the great feedback! (BTW, I hate killing things, but my plants are just ravaged).

How Do You Get Rid of Slugs?

I've heard a shallow dish of beer will do the trick, is that true?
