I live in Seattle and I just got my new tax assessment -- it went from $856K to $937K which is a big increase, especially considering that home prices are declining in Seattle. Still, my Zestimate is $1.4M so it's not like I think my assessment is too high, it's just that i'm surprised / ticked off that it went up so much. I'm looking for advice -- should I challenge the assessment? Might the end result be that it's assessed even HIGHER?
happyhome1 --Why do you think it is illegal to opine on the value of someone's home? Isn't that what your neighbors are doing right now? They see your "For Sale" sign outside your house and they talk to eachother about what the house will likely sell for. They're discussing the value of your home. If one of them tells some people that his estimated value of your home is $266,500 (your current Zestimate), are you going to sue him?
