Stephan is an outstanding broker. He is knowledgeable and extremely reliable. He's got a great personality and is excellent to work with. I greatly valued his advise and guidance and felt confident that he was listening to my needs. Very importantly, he is a creative thinker and will exhaust all efforts and possibilities to accomplish the task at hand. I highly recommend Stephan and would call upon him again!
Initially I was hesitant to use a broker because of the hefty fee, but Stephan was worth every penny. Stephan was extremely prepared--he sent me an preview of the apartments we were going to see, so I had an idea of what was available, which was great because I was flying in from the west coast and didn't know what the NYC housing market was like. He was attentive and revised the apartments we were going to see when I told him I wanted extra amenities. I was lucky and found an apartment on the first day. He was fast and was able to send my application within an hour of seeing the apartment. During the negotiation phase, Stephan was very available- responding quickly to emails and texts. I didn't know this at the time, but there were two other applicants vying for the same apartment as me but he was skillful and made me look like the more attractive applicant. I was able to get a 2 year lease and lock in my rate! Stephan made what could have been a brutal process (navigating the NYC housing market) into a smooth experience for me.
Stephan helped me find an apartment in New York City in early 2012. He was fantastic. I feel very lucky to have found him. His style matches my personality perfectly. (A little background on me: I taught Physics at a University for a long time, and now I am a writer.) He was aggressive in setting up appointments to look at many different apartments on the same day, so that I would have a lot to choose from, but was never pushy about wanting me to decide. In fact he cautioned me about deciding too quickly: "I know you love the view here, and it's close to the subway, but the next place we will see is larger and closer to midtown and has a gym, but it's further from the subway. That's a tradeoff..." and so on. He kept explaining the advantages and disadvantages of each place as we visited 6 or 7 apartments in one afternoon. I ended up finding a beautiful apartment in a quiet neighborhood (one of my priorities) overlooking the Hudson river. I am careful with money, and Stephan's fee is not small, so it was a big decision for me to use a broker. But I'm very happy that I did. It would have taken me many days, or weeks even, to look at enough apartments to make a decision on my own, and by the time I did that an apartment I loved would have probably already been rented, because the rental market in New York City is so tight. In fact the apartment I decided on would probably have been rented to someone else later that afternoon or the next morning, because there were other brokers with their clients in the building at the same time Stephan and I were here. That's how fast things move here. So I recommend that you use a broker, and if you do, I think you will be very, very happy with Stephan.
I was referred to Stephan by a friend of mine who also had a positive experience with him. Stephan was attentive, patient and always tried to meet my needs. I gave him my wish list and he was able to find several possible options that fit within my budget. He was on time, organized and polite.
