This is our second year at Independence and we are not very happy with it overall. It may be that we are used to things being handled a certain way--in the spirit of excellence--and at Independence things 'just happen'. Mrs. Chandler and a couple of the PTO members basically run the entire school. They don't seek parent participation; PTO only meets when a couple of the PTO officers can meet--during the school/work day which eliminates most parents from attending. You really don't know what's going on until it's happening. I must say that a couple of the teachers are excellent to work with--and we are going to suffer since Ms. Little the guidance counselor has moved on as she was very interactive with the children.
