The MOST terrible school my children have ever attended. Im so sad bc my children are left to go here bc of the district that we are in. The students are so very . I dont recall a time as a kid that it was okay to use profanity within any school these kids use profanity like adults. I witness this disrespectful act myself. Very heartbreaking to know that this school has not shut down. The students DOES NOT RESPECT AUTHORITIES WHATSOEVER. This is not what i remembered school.was like as a child. The teachers cuss at the students too. This is the TRUE meaning of GHETTO. Next year my other childrens will not attend this school thry will put in a private school. This isnt a school.its a holding spot. T

I am an 8th grade CAPA student at West and I really think that this school has overall improved alot over the past few years based on what I've heard fromm other community members as well as seen myself.

i am going to west middle school and i am in the 6th grade. I fell unsafe all the time i fell like when i do something i will get hurt the teachers are ok but the students are rude to everybody. If you do not mess with anyone then most likely you will not get messed with but sometimes all u have to do is bump in to someone and they wont to fight are they stupid or something you don't need to fight

im a student currently enroled at west middle school. i feel very unsafe. i would be walking down the hall and someone i dont even know would eather push me of hit me. i try not to fight with people because that would add to the problem. but when you are at a school with so many kids with low respect for others its so difficult to keep your temper down. i have not had any seriouse problems but there are a lot of drug and alchohal abuse as well as violence and disrespect. the only thing i can realy say is that the teachers are very polite. but at one point when i tried to transfer schools they would not let me because of where i live. it will be better when i am in 7th grade. dont believe them when they talk about 6th grade beat up day.

I have children at west and am very disappointed with the schools enviorment how do they expect children to learn if others are so out of control there is no respect to anyone in or around the building. My children dont even want to attend this year. But do to zoning issues we have to send our children to a school were they feel unsafe !!!! now how is that learning ?????

I'm in the gifted program and its a great learning experience but some of the students have very low respect for the teachers and administrators and it's very disturbing to everyone else who wants to learn.

The students have such low respect for teachers and authorities. Things get to out of hand.

i love the gifted program but sometimes i view the quality of the teachers extracurricular activities and safety/discipline a little lacking. the administration is doing about all they can but 4 some of the kids at west its just not enough. all thought many students may say the principal is 'bogus' she does what she has to. i just believe its unfair that the good kids (not necessarily all gifted) are stuck with a group of about 50 kids who ruin the environment for everyone else. but overall i do enjoy this school because i am constantly challenged by the curriculum and have made many good friends.

My daughter has been going to West since 6th grade. She is now going in to the 8th grade. I have become very disappointed in the ways of this school. The teachers are never avialable after school and they don't do much to help the students out. All I have to say is I'm happy she only has one last year there!

Many teachers here are unavailable for help before or after school. The Principal is new and very green. She has no control over the teachers and does not care. Staff and teachers do not return phone calls and are un-responsive. Gifted Program is the the best RPS 205 has to offer. It is unfortunate the nobody puts the student first.

My daughter has attended West for the Gifted program for 6 7 & 8th grades. This year has been disappointing due to the serious discipline issues and the new principal's attitude. The academics are satisfactory but I have reservations about a few of the teachers. There have been reports of unprofessional behavior. Also the building is in disrepair and is an eyesore. My daughter doesn't even use the restroom at school anymore due to the condition of the restrooms and fear for her safety. We are not sending her to Auburn or any public high school next year.

The school is falling apart. I am lucky that we have a good schoolboard rep who was able to get things done because the principal was no help. Nobody gets back to you on issues and the attitude of the administration seems to be 'ignore them and they will go away'. West has major discipline issues and it appears to have a lack of communication both to parents and between their own staff members. The only good point is that my child only has to be there for 3 years.

I am grateful there is a gifted program that my child can attend. I have always been satisfied with the teaching staff of the Rockford School District. I just wish that all the gifted education was not all the way across town. My oldest daughter skipped High School gifted because of the location and distance to the school. Now my son is in eighth and wants to continue in the program and we are once again forced to travel about 22-25 minutes to attend any school functions and to pick him up from activities. I believe the parent(s) are responsible to start educating their child from birth until they reach school age. Not blame the teachers for their child's lack of education. The parents have to look at themselves as well to set the example and teach before they enter school and during if necessary.

The Gifted program is challenging however there have already been at least two cases of violence this year already and I am worried about my child's safety.

The Gifted program at West Middle School is wonderful the teachers are great and the enviroment is okay but watch out for 7th grade there is much homework here often making kids stay up late. West has a great sports program one of its drawbacks though is the saftey

The gifted program at West is a wonderful academic education. My children are being prepared well for high school and beyond. The band at West is wonderful under the direction of a dedicated teacher. West also boasts one of the few orchestras in Rockford Middle School. The sports at West are one of the more organized for the middle schools. Overall my childrens experience has been good but I would stress that the curriculm is an important reason to send your child to West.

My son started in the Gifted program at West last year (6th) and we have been extremely happy with the program. We have had no safety concerns the kids are allowed to actually LEARN in an atmosphere of instruction instead of teachers spending their time disciplining. My daughter will also go there next year. Parent participation within the gifted program is high unfortunately you have to choose between band or gym they do offer afterschool sports service club scholastic club etc. Only downside it the district itself after 10 years of turmoil from a desegregation lawsuit we are trying to finally get ack on track.

My son started 6th grade with West Middle School. He is in the honor roll and so far we've been happy with the curriculum. I was at first hesitant to have him start his Middle school there but I said we'll give it a try and sure enough it's worth it. He's been doing well in his academics and extracurricular activities. Their music class is also superb! I recommend their gifted program to parents.
