California Standards Test (CST)

In 2012-2013 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

My son currently goes here and is in the first grade and he loves it! This school is fantastic! The teachers are all so great and really care about the education the kids are receiving. The principal is just as involved and is just as committed as the teachers. The extra bonus is that El Crystal is a STEM school Science Technology Engineering and Math. I couldn't ask for a better place to send my son and look forward to the day when my daughter will attend as well. Go Wildcats!

The teachers at El Crystal are amazing my husband and I could not be happier. All of the teachers are extremely helpful especially when it comes to questions concerning curriculum. Also the Principal is very active with the students teachers and families you can find him leading the kids every morning in the pledge of allegiance running kickball games with the kids or meeting with teachers. The STEM curriculum is always forward thinking fun and hands on. The families are very involved and the PTA provides so many family activities to make sure the community is strong.

Wouldn't send my child anywhere else !!! I am thrilled to be part of this community and being a STEM School is the biggest plus!! Why pay private. My child has learned so much . Started in kindergarten with ms Moores and now in first grade with mrs Pence excellent teachers . The whole staff is loving carrying and committed . I would rate this school a 10 if I could . Don't look any further El Crystal is outstanding

If I could give El Crystal six stars I would! This school is amazing and I am often surprised that it's a public school. The programs they have are fantastic. This school is the only school in our district that has a STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Math) program. I wasn't sure what that meant until my kids were (literally) hands deep into it. The program calls for a strong collaboration and hands on learning which helps the kids to learn and grow. With the recent Common Core standards introduced it was a fairly seamless transition for this school since they had successful implementation of this type of learning environment. This school is small and I love that. It has more of a family feel to it and there are teachers that greet me by name that I don't even know. Somehow they know all students and families. The staff is amazing they genuinely love the kids. It doesn't seem that this is just a job to them. Homework is encouraged to send in online. It gets my kids excited to do homework and the technology aspect of it prepares them better for middle school high school and the work force. My only regret is that we didn't find this little gem sooner!!

I attended school in one of the world's top 5 public systems and I can say with certainty that because of the stem focused curriculum my kindergartener is learning concepts I didn't know about until the fifth and sixth grades. I am routinely impressed with his knowledge of scientific inquiry and his exposure to critical thinking even in kindergarten! They have a music program physical education and they have somehow instilled in my son a love of reading. His teacher Ms. Mooers also ensures kindergarten is fun and has plenty of creative projects for them. I have had the opportunity to observe the class frequently because el crystal school encourages parent involvement. It's also within walking distance and is a fantastic diverse and tight knit community school. We checked out multiple private schools as well as we were willing to pay top dollar for a quality education but we have this and more at el crystal school. The money we are saving we are able to put towards many extracurricular activities such as basketball camps additional music lessons and towards his college fund. Very thrilled with this school!

My child just started Kindergarten at El Crystal this year and has had tremendous improvement already in his reading skills and writing. His teacher is fabulous! She really connects with the children. The staff is wonderful and so far we are loving it here and feel it is a great fit for our child. The STEM program is a great method of teaching we can always emphasize more on Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics! Technology alone will be a major part in all of our kids futures!

El Crystal is one GREAT school for your child to attend. The staff is amazing competent trustful engaging teachers with effective teaching styles (we were in Ms. Mooers K class last year and are currently with Ms. Pence both AMAZING). When our daughter an ESL student learned to read and write within 2-3 months last year we couldn't be happier. We see her progress every day. Good lunches too. The principal and the office manager are very approachable helpful and pleasant with parents. Upon moving to San Bruno from San Francisco last year we were considering a private school but El Crystal became everything (and more) we were hoping for for our child. And did I mention that they have STEM program integrated in curriculum?!.. 6 STARS HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

We transferred from another public school 2 years ago....my children weren't getting enough science or social studies or technology. They are so happy here! I am happy too with the sense of community I feel. The best part is the teachers are younger and are willing to experiment with new ways of teaching....not the same old--read write listen regurgitate. My kids are involved and engaged. Most lessons combine writing reading internet research math and science. They really are able to put all those items into lesson. Loving it here!

My daughter went to El Crystal we were very happy. The principal and staff were great it is a small school community like a family everyone knows your children. The PTA is strong many school activities and an excellent art program. El Crystal was an awesome experience we were sad to move on.

Both my children attended this school -- it's a small school so you and your kids are not a number here; the principal and the teachers know EVERYBODY by name. It was a bit less the case with my second child because there was a lot of teacher turnover (retirements young teachers moving/starting a family etc.) but it was still very friendly and close-knit. There are plenty of opportunities to volunteer and the principal and teachers are very welcoming and appreciative. A jewel of a school!

I love this school family. This is a school where the principal knows every kid. That is very important to me. Very strong PTA and lots of PTA events to raise money for the kids needs.

Love the school. Parents are well involved and children seem really happy.

Very friendly small close-knit school. Children well-behaved. Like most public schools the curriculm lacks in Arts and Music but we supplement with private classes on the weekends.
