California Standards Test (CST)

In 2011-2012 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

My child loves their school! They have had good grades. Great teachers this is a great school.

This school was just terrible. The teachers were awsome they helped my through the curriculum but the environment. Imagine trying to study Algebra and many kids make the strangest noises possible for attention. I would compare this school to a free baby sitting service becuase acedemics is worth zilch there.

Parkside Middle school in San Bruno is a school led by a incapable principal. Mr.Cheever is not willing to know your concerns. He is a perfect fit to a title Principal Non-Response. The academic scores is very low and the school is not focused on future improvement. All in all it is a school you can put your kids in only if you have no other option in this area. It is better to learn Spanish before entering the school!

Parkside is an OK school -- not great not horrible. Rumors about the violence and gangstas is overrated. My kids felt safe there and as a parent volunteer I felt comfortable there. Academics are not a strong suit at this school. Some of the teachers are great and prepare the students well but most don't hold the kids to high standards and just let them slide. If your child is motivated to do well however s/he will do fine there. Principal means well but she makes too many decisions based on emotion and reaction to a situation -- she is not proactive and strategic. I think the school could be a lot better under more dynamic and smart leadership. Just being caring isn't enough. But socially it's a decent school -- and fitting in with friends is so important to middle schoolers.

The teachers and staff really care about helping the students. The new facility is bright and modern. The leadership is intelligent and dedicated to excellence. The diversity is wonderful.

I am surprised for all the bad reviews. My son has a learning disability and I have only kind words for the counselors special ed. teachers and teachers in general. This school is good and it's sad that our own community is the one putting the school down. Instead of complaining get involved and make the difference.

I don't understand the bad reviews of Parkside. My daughter is in the 7th grade there and she is having a wonderful experience. The teachers are involved and caring and they are getting great performance from my daughter. It is an excellent school!

I would not recommend this school to anyone. This school failed to teach my daughter and when I approach the school with my concerns nothing was done. It seems that this school district is failing to teach alot of students. Charter school is the way to go. After this school I had to do my own research on public schooling. I recommend viewing a documentary called "waiting for superman". You will find alot of answers there.

The current principle and vice principle is doing a wonderful job. I am however disappointed with a majority of the teachers. There are only a select few that are worth having your children go to Parkside. It is unfortunate to these amazing teachers that the rest are not up to the challenge of preparing and nurturing our students.

Parkside prepared my son well for high school. He's taking pre IB classes. The physics teacher is impressed with the knowledge they learn from Parkside and proven true by my son's perfect score in his science STAR test result in 8th grade. The principal and staff are very supportive.

I am an 8th grader at another school but i went to Parkside for my 7th grade year. I was not focused at all in my studies and the teachers don't care either. I was completely unprepared for what the school i go to now had up its sleeve. I thought I was learning but i was just there for my friends. I think Ms. Addiego is a bad principal. She doesn't really care about her students. She cares about it's reputation and it's bad enough already. And putting stupid uniform dress codes is not going to help the student's education. I really feel bad for the students there now because I feel they are not learning as much as they are capable of. I loved living in San Bruno but since I moved I noticed there's a lot better out there. I suggest you don't send your child to Parkside...

This is a Response to the February 15 2008 ! Parkside has the best teachers! I'm a current Cap Resident Freshman and taking all Pre-Ib classes . Parkside's 8th Grade As Teachers help you prepare for 9th grade. Ms. Isareal As class is soo difficult and the deadlines are soo soon. But I'm glad I took her class because it really help me prepared for high school. My english class is exactly the same but 9th grade material. But thank you Ms. Isareal for preparing me for high school. Ms. harames is the algebra teacher at Parkside and she is a great teacher ! She really gets you the idea of high school. Its work after work after work. But her tests was soo hard and her challenges were also difficult too. But if you payed attension and did you homework and asked for help. You'll do just fine !

I feel parksdide is a really great school and doesnt keep my kid isolated so he can be free but still get a great education> I also like the variety of culture and rase because i dont my kids to be all around one king and not know anything about the others. i rate this school a 10 out of 10

This is in response to the Feb1508 response and to anyone who thinks negatively about Parkside. I have a daughter who is a gate student and now a 9th grader at Cap and while attending Parkside she took AP classes. She was placed in these classes by her teacher possibly they didn't place this former student into these classes therefore causing them to be in over their head. 2nd as far as electives go the only one cut was Spanish. There are not 2 math classes unless you have math tech as an elective. I have had no problems with Parkside this is our 3rd year there my son is in 8th gr. Every school has problems fights etc. But I think it is up to the parents to lead their child in the right direction know who their friends are. Don't depend on the school to do this for you.

If all parents of sixth grade students in San Bruno would send their children to Parkside then it could help make it an excellent school. Parkside has been improving academically and socially. Come together as a community and support our middle school. More parent involvement is always welcome. We can do it!

you know this school isnt excellent but its not terrible... i made some pretty good friends there and i came from a different district so i knew nobody and the teachers there are so welcoming i love ms. bilal this isnt a bad school people just make it seem that way because they had a bad expirence but more than most of the kids there love it

parkside is the best school ever!!! people are ignorant because they hear that its a bad school then they think their child is going to be bad and its not true it all depends on the student all schools are the same!!! and for the review before me is absolutely wrong!!! that is a lie about all the elective programs!!! we still have all of the electives and next year some students might have to take 2 math classes just like chore is taught in two periods!!! This Is an awesome!!!! all my teachers truly care!!! visit the school if you dont believe me!!! then how did mr.bowman become a teacher?? if sopposely parkside is a bad school?? he graduated from parkside and cap!!!!! Ms. Swartz rocks!!! I love her!!!

I went to parkside for two years and in all honesty it was a terrible school. They had absolutely nothing there and nothing was taken seriously there. After parkside i came to capuchino high school which if you don't already know has the international baccelaureate program which serves college level classes. I took all of the pre-ib classes and guess what happened i was not prepared for anything. I knew abolsutely nothing and thus i'm still struggling whereas those who went to burlingame intermediate or taylor middle school in millbrae are doing just fine. Do not send your soon-to-be teenager to parkside as this school does absolutely nothing to help them get ready for high school. And i have also learned that parkside has canelled all arts program including spanish. That means that music art computers and spanish are no longer offered at this school. All in all bad school!

I like the school!!!! It's a great school and hope more people realize that its a wonderful for their kids to go at.

I wouldn't advise any child with a diability to attend Parkside. The administration and the teachers are extrememly uneducated and prejudice against students with disbilities. The school board from this district as well as the district superintendant refused to act on my complaint. The teachers refuse to acknowledge disabilities. I have had two children with disabilities at this school and it was a nightmare for both of them. Parent concerns are swept under the rug. I would have moved out of San Bruno to avoid this school if I could have.
