California Standards Test (CST)

In 2011-2012 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

My son is coming home from school happy everyday since school started. That is a good sign to me. My son also seems very happy with his teachers especially Mr. Brown. Also so far I have gotten lots of help from the office staff.

Son can't wait to get to school everyday. Loves the majority of his teachers and loves how active PE is where they are always learning new activities. Only concern is there seems to be little homework required?? Front office is not friendly!! They never great you with a hello or smile. I hope they are more pleasant when kids come in. Overall we love this school.

As a past student I have noticed that to a great extent that the teachers at SMS are fantastic ( of course there are few exceptions to this.). The staff and teachers try and succeed in the arduous task of preparing students for high school. Nice campus despite being not shiny and new like maybe VDM or even SJHHS' new campus. The music department is great to listen to (and perform in). The GATE program always seemed full and produced some of the brightest students in my classes at SCHS this year. Yes there are some problems with drug use at the school by the kids and yes they my curse but ask yourself this WHAT SCHOOL DOESN'T? Overall this school has been the best from my perspective because it prepared me educated me made me strive for my goals and SUCCEED! And this school can do the same for students who attend. Definitely not a waste of time if you let it sink in.

My daughter knows lots of kids here who have done drugs the children cuss and they are very unfriendly there. My daughter is practically getting down on her hands and knees and begging me to take her out of the school!

This is an excellent school! The teachers are dedicated to helping the students learn. The office staff are caring and go above and beyond to assist parents and students. The Principal genuinely cares about each student and their progress. I highly recommend this school over the other middle schools in San Clemente.

Was pushed out if Vista Del Mar last year and was not happy at first. Found out that SC is a much better school with better teachers that really care about the students. Also the fact that it truly is a Junior High and not some half-baked one like VDM prepares the kids better for high school.

We are in our 3rd year at Shorecliffs. I have been extreamly happy with the staff teachers and principal ( he really cares about the kids). I've been so impressed by the communication between the teachers students and principal. I feel very well imformed about how my child is doing in school and current events at the school. The teachers have been awesome!

poor principals and leadership many unmotivated teachers however 8th graders in GATE have some great ones. music department in pretty good. really nice campus. overall an ok school

Shorecliffs is an impressive school. The teachers are dedicated. The principals are outstanding. Academic standards are high. Students have numerous academic opportunities. The Capistrano District has cut extracurricular programs over the years. Shorecliffs does have a top band and orchestra program. As with most middle schools there could be more parent involvement. We had three terrific years at Shorecliffs. The building is not shiny and new but the staff and faculty work as a oiled machine.
