California Standards Test (CST)

In 2012-2013 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

My son attended Garden Road for Kinder and the first half of 1st Grade. His Kindergarten teacher was abrasive and admittedly yelled at the children. She tended to label children who were bored as "bad" and treat them as such so my very active and bored child was treated with bias. There was also a lot of bullying at the school. My son was pushed and kicked while on the ground. He was punched. He was spit on his food stolen called names by one other child in particular. After many weeks of this going on the school finally did something to help stop it but it took me constantly barraging the principal with phone calls. His teacher did absolutely nothing about it until she was told to do so by the principal. As for 1st Grade his teacher was a dream come true. She was compassionate towards ALL the children. She was excited about teaching and seeing the kids learn. She even realized that my son needed something extra and recommended him for a special program at the school so that he would be able to have more direct one-on-one time with a teacher and learn skills that would support him in his school career.
