I attended Horace Mann Middle School from 6th-8th grade. 6th grade was a mess but this school is improving a lot. The teachers are improving every year and the administration have been very supportive for the teachers. The test scores have been going up every year because the teachers prepared the students very well. They prepared us so well the CST became real easy for me. In fact the Algebra CST was really easy. I think I got perfect. I caught most of the trick/tricky questions as well... We also have drama talent show great clubs after school tutoring French Mandarin Chinese beginner and intermediate band beginner and intermediate orchestra guitar and prime time. There could be more. I can't remember at the moment. I believe this school will continue to improve and offer great opportunities to students. CLASS OF 2010 RULES!!! By Henry 3

I go here and frankly i'm trying to get out of this school. They suspend you for little things most of the teachers are mean and you can't learn a thing. Many fights kids here fight for the stupist things.

This school rocks! I love this place. Its poor in materials but rich in spirit and the kids who work at it come out ahead in the long run. Its often had a bad rap as a ghetto school but thats not true its just urban. Give this place a chance.

Great school trying their best !!! Good luck

Mann is now one campus again and there continues to be many problems with disruptive student behavior. Their defiance and disrespect for adults prevents the teachers from doing their job.

If you are considering sending your child to this school simply don't. Get your kid on a bus somewhere like SCPA or lewis or pershing. This school is quite violent for a middle school and the kids who don't want to learn 50% will drag down the other half with their unruly behavior which completely prevents a teacher from teaching an effective lesson.....

This is a great school. There are a lot of great extra-curricular activities that will keep students interested. Teachers and staff are very dedicated to their students. Many parents speculate that there are a lot of fights and gangs on campus but there actually barely any. According to my son fights happen about twice a year and they rarely last over two minutes. I think this is a great school with many oppurtunities for your children!

This school is going through a big change to small schools. 05/06 school year may be a difficult one. Teachers seem to be very dedicated. They have no electives so student moral seems low. I wish they offered things like band and choir.

Teachers were great and patient with having to deal with so many non-english speaking students. The chidren who do speak english suffered while waiting for the other chidren to catch up.

Very little homework given and my 7th grade student spends a lot of time watching movies (how does this fall into the 'learning' category?). Student supervision is lax with a lot of gang activity and picking on minority (white)students is prevalent.
