California Standards Test (CST)

In 2012-2013 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

The principal is very available and works hard to do a good job. The teachers that I have met are fantastic. Ahead of the curve on the common core curriculum in Maths. The English/social studies teacher is very engaging. It is a welcoming body of people. The building itself kind of looks like an old prison on the outside (imo). But there is a huge internal renovation going on inside to make the classes bright fresh functional and up-to-date. There isn't a blade of grass on the school yard which is sad city school syndrome (hence 4 instead of 5 stars). But thankfully daily PE classes use the Rossi Park and pool. They also do a "rock the block" regularly. The staff care the parents I have met are interesting interested and say their kids are very happy at Roosevelt.

This school is one of the best schools out there now some people think it has an unfit education but this is wrong they have excellent teachers who are intelligent but not to the point where they are TOO serious or pessimistic. The school is ethical and offers many extracurricular classes such as orchestra and home economics bullying is rare in this school and it is a lot of fun. The school is very resourceful such as in ways of raising money. One way they did it is they had a 150 word spelling test to put contestants in the year's spelling bee but also the number of words the child spelled right if the parents signed off they would pay a dollar for every word their child spelled right of course they didn't force the parents to pay the donation and they could make a flat donation and just donate as much as they see fit for themselves but everyone donated enough money to pay for educational field trips and new equipment to improve classes and education.

The hidden gem of middle schools in the SFUSD system. Energized faculty highly-visible principal relatively small size compared to other middle schools in the system good overall academic performance and high participation in school sports and band. Parent involvement is not as strong as I've seen in other schools around the district but improving.

My kids THRIVED at this school. We moved here late into the year 2009/10 school year. My kids already had the "new kids in school angst" along with the middle school jitters. After 1 week into the school both kids 7th & 8th grade had made quality friendships. The kids also excelled in academics as well as sports and band. The life lessons learned there as well as the academics will get them far in life.

I think this is a great school. The teachers I have interacted with our commited to excellence inovative and caring. The principle and vice principle are excellent. They also have an excellent IEP coordinator who makes the most of her limited staff. The school is also located in a safe neighborhood.

Roosevelt is the best thing that has happened to my children and I. The school is academically challenging the discipline is pretty much OK -even though not perfect- the staff is a good team of teachers and personnel and the Principal is a super professional that is taking Roosevelt throught the right path he always has a open door policy and cares about what happens in the school.

Roosevelt is the best school ever don't just take it from me when I first entered at the ice cream social I hated the idea of leaving fifth grade and going there I am an eighth grader graduating this year and I have grown up so much the teachers are caring and everyone cares about you at roosevelt. At roosevelt you discover who you truely are and its where dreams begin. You learn to take flight and no regrets never looking back succeeding in whatever you do in life. I nevr expected to end up loving it here Roosevelt is more than just another school for us to me and my friends its home. You can be whoever and whatever you want to be. everyone opens you with open arms. I learned in sixth grade reach for the moon even if you miss you'll land among the stars. fly with us! (=

Parents are best suited to rate schools precisely because they have first hand experience. My oldest son graduated from RMS and my youngest son started this year. It is a good school with excellent academic honors classes and caring teachers. It prepares the kids well for high school and I highly recommend it. Don't judge a book by its cover the core of this school is golden.
