California Standards Test (CST)

In 2012-2013 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

Sutter is the best elementary school in Santa Clara. A great mix of students and parents and a nice quiet location. The test scores are excellent considering the diversity in the school. The parents are a nice mix of long term local residents and people working in Silicon Valley. Sutter forms a great foundation for your kids education.

Sutter grade (K) has two adults watching a 120 children during recess & lunch recess. This is an issue and hopefully it gets worked out before the next school year.

Students parents teachers and administrators have created an uplifting social and academic environment. I feel that my two sons are being nurtured and taught by teachers that love their work and care for their students. A great feeling of community exists at Sutter.

I used to go to Sutter and I just visited the other day. I miss it so much! It was a really friendly family oriented environment. School spirit leadership and parent involvement was great! I loved the music program and I highly recommend it. I also loved the after-school care they have on campus. I learned a lot there. Only complaint is Buchser isn't a very good middle school and that's where everyone usually goes. I'd suggest Peterson Middle School instead.

Sutter is an excellent school combining both academics and overall child development. Very dedicated teaching staff and principal. Numerous after school activities. In all a wholesome learning environment

Sutter has been an excellent environment for my kids. The staff and community strive for a nice balance of challenging curriculum for different levels of students and fun programs that get everyone involved. I think the principal and teachers are some of the best in the state. Bravo Sutter!

Sutter has a strong community of caring involved parents and great kids. Our weekly friday morning assemblies increase school spirit and unity. Curriculum is enriched with lots of projects that get kids excited about learning and the PTA sponsors many family events throughout the year without asking for lot of donations or financial support from the students.

There are few schools that can compare to Sutter in it's Academic Excellence and involvement and caring by both staff / faculty and parents. This is the Elementary school that everyone would dream that their child would go to! The principal is very involved and very approachable and parent involvement in the classroom and before and after school are encouraged. It is amazing to see that the staff / parent ratio during school hours seems to be nearly 1 1! It's that active. The PTA is great. The activities are super. The most important thing is that they strive to build on the individual and set the right foundation for future learning and take a whole student Approach. I would recommend this school to anyone. I wish I could have gone there for Elementary School! Some of the most outstanding teachers are Kelly Burke Sue Feldman Pat Smith and Mrs. Correia.

My son loves Sutter and as his parent I am equally happy. The teachers are phenomenal. I thought his Kindergarten teacher was amazing; I could not believe my son went from barely writing his name to writing a 5 page report by the end of the year. And his 1st grade teacher was even better. She had extremely high standards for this class of 21 students and her combination a teaching style and caring led each of the kids to success in reading writing math and every other subject. The PTA is very involved and provides fun educational activities after school and raises money for field trips for the entire school. I could not imagine a better environment for my children to learn to love school and lay a foundation for success as they continue on with their education.

I had 3 children go through Sutter and two of them graduated from Santa Clara University electrical engineering and political science and one from ST Mary's in Moraga with a degree in accounting. They received a good start at Sutter and it carried all the way through college. Sutter's education will easily compete with any school in the state.

Had 3 children from 1978 thru 1994 go to Sutter and was happy. Have 2 grandchildren (2nd & 3rd grade) going now. What a difference. High level of caring teacher involvement even with the hard curriculum; even I sometimes have to read and reread the concept of a problem. Big driven PTA involvement. School is always in fund raising mode.

Sutter is an exceptional school. The education and consistency is proven by the teachers staff and environment. Sutter is a community within a community. The PTA prides itself with such involvement and enthusiasm for all the children. There are events every month for the children and the entire family. The school does more than its share and more for such an excellant and memorable experience in elementary school.

We feel very lucky to have Sutter as our home school. The teachers are incredible. The best part of the school is the tremendous parent participation and super active PTA. Sutter is more than an educational experience it is a community experience.

My child just started school this past week and its been pretty good. The ladies in the office were very nice and helpful. My child's teacher introduced herself and informed me about the circular activities and made me feel very comfortable. So as far as I know there are no complaints on my end and definetly none on my childs end. He said he loves it.

My child goes to Sutter and we are so pleased with everything about this school. The community/parent involvement is so abundant. It is like a small private school in the middle of the city. The teachers principals and staff really truly care about the children. I would choose this school again.

Sutter and its team foster a feeling of community and caring. Programs bring students and parents together. I chose this school for my children six years ago thinking this school would be a good environment for my children. I am very pleased to know that I made the perfect choice for our family. Thanks go to the teachers staff parents and students who have made this school an example of a public school gone over and above expectations!
