California Standards Test (CST)

In 2011-2012 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

I have two children at this school. They completed their first year at this school after previously attending school in another district. My son struggled with ADD and had a TREMENDOUS amount of homework in previous years it was just too much for him. We decided to hold him back in 5th grade and changed schools. I'm happy to say that Hill Creek worked with him immensely and he had a successful repeat of 5th grade. All B's and 1 A on his final report card. He now has confidence in himself and LOVES school. He asked me today how long he has until school starts again. He's excited to go back. My daughter in 2nd grade had a successful year as well with a great teacher. This is a quality school with staff and teachers who are dedicated to seeing children succeed.

I am a friend of someone that has children that attend this school and have heard alot of good things about this school and have been thinking of writing a review of this school and finally got around to it. As a business owner I believe this is a great school as the reports of my friends child are unbelievable for a third grader reading at an 8th grade level.

For the Special education overall Santee is not that great. The special ed coordinater at the district. is very rude and not helpful. Secondly my child really needs to be included in there program of regular ed and they bring in 5 special ed (mild) kids in the classs. I was told there was no such thing in the district and there was and wasn't informed again that my child could attend this. I got him in there thru asking more questions and asked the teacher about it. I is crazy my child could have had a better year I feel he has been deprived of something good and provided restricted environment for learning.

Caring and responsive teachers. The teachers are well organized and quick to repond to parents concerns.

Some things that bother me about this school is the way they handle behavior situations. The school tends to have your students behavior from previos [years] continue to follow them.

My son attends Hillcreek school. He is in 2nd grade and has really enjoyed it this far. However my advice to parents would be if you believe your child is falling through the cracks--fight for them. No one else seems to!

My daughter is in kindergarten at Hill Creek and she loves it. I have volunteered in the classroom and found the teachers to be very patient well rounded and always engaging the children. The teachers were encouraging and supportive of the children during their learning experiences. My daughter was apprehensive about Kindergarten after the first week she was excited interacting and knew the teachers principal and vice principal. The parents and faculty are very involved and my husband and are very impressed.

I think Hillcreek elementary is a great school if you want your child to have great learning experience and very good P.E. I know this because i'v been attending Hillcreek for 6 years.

I can share that our experience at Hill Creek Elementary was disappointing. My husband and I went to visit the classroom where our son was supposed to attend and I found the classroom setting to be below standard. The classroom did not have a refrigerator for children to put their meals. The teacher appeared worn out and likely so since she only had one aide for the 16 children she had in her classroom. We reviewed the curriculum and saw that it was poor. Maybe my judgement is preliminary; however I did not like the classroom or the playground.

Hill Creek is an amazing school. My boys attended Hill Creek for 5 years. The teachers really take an interest in the students and are always willing to work with the parents.
