This school has exceptional standards. Their students are learning to become very academically advanced. I was a student there myself. Scottsburg has advanced it's learning standards greatly. Still today I respect Scottsburg for their kind and friendly environment. I would recommend this school to anybody. It is just perfect!!!! High ISTEP+ scores and a friendly environment. Perfect for anybody looking to place their child in a safe place. The principal has observed in classrooms and even helped out a little himself. Today is their 75th birthday. Happy Birthday Scottsburg!!!!!

Reading these reviews has made me wonder how many of the people writing them has actually gotten involved in the school. It is so easy to make snap judgements without getting to know the people or situation. The best way to know a person is to work with them. Get involved in the PTO volunteer in your childs classroom. Ask what you can do to help. It is not the teachers responsibility to get you involved it is YOURS. Teachers and principals not only have to teach our children but they are under great pressure to improve the students performance. As far as racism is concerned Scottsburg is a predominantly white community hence the schools are predominantly white.

I have been to all elementary schools in Scott County and have dealt with all principals. In my opinion SES principal Mrs. Neibert is doing a very good job. No one considers what it actually takes to be a principal. It is not just the 8am to 3 pm most people think. Mrs. Neibert stresses more importance in a lot of areas other principlals neglect such as student safety. She attends most school functions where as most other principals don't show.

The teachers at Scottsburg Elementary are wonderful! Unfortunately our principle and vice-principle are not so wonderful. This is supposed to be a school with 0 tolerance on bullying. I think the teachers believe in that but I can't say the same for the principle.

I have lived in Scott county for 5 years. I have one son that made it thru SES perfectly. I could not ask for more wonderful teachers. The very best one was his 2nd grade and 4th grade teachers. I never had a problem. Then My daughter starts 1st grade 7 weeks into the school year they want to take her teacher away and put 15 1st grade student in 5 other classes. They have no plan on how to do this. When they are going to do this. All they know is that it is their way or you can go to another school. They do not care about these kids or about the parents. Please if you are thinking of moving to Scott County put your kids in the Austin School District. Please know that this is not the teachers. Its our board members and our princible.

I have one child who attended this school and is now in Middle School and currently have a child in kindergarten. I never had any trouble with faculty but always requested a teacher I knew would provide quality instruction. There is favortism when it comes to requesting teachers- one is supposed to name a first and second choice of a teacher on a form and list academic reasons why a request is made for a particular teacher. Certain people who are in a higher economic status never indicate a second choice on the form and still receive the teacher requested. In a small town those who own businesses have money etc. do receive special treatment. Academic wise my Middle School student was prepared. Personally I don't think any schools in this county prepare a child for an intense college curriculum.

This is my son's first year and his teacher Mrs. Busick is wonderful! I have not personally met the principal but my husband doesn't have anything nice to say so I'll leave it at that. The person registering the students gave my husband a dirty look after finding out that we have 4 children. I have also noticed no African-Americans. I believe this town is as racist as when I was a student (I'm asian). I do enjoy the safety of the students...all doors locked during the day.

I was recently doing research on my childs school when i found out about www.greatschools.org and I just wanted to say i agree 100% with the other two reviews on the school. I believe the teachers are excellent but the principal is one of the most snobbish and rudest people that I or my child has ever met. My child come home one day and had big elbow burns from the blacktop on the playground. He/She immediately said that another child had pushed her down. I asker he/she if there was any displinary action and they said no. I believe that Scottsburg Elementary is in desperate need of a new principal because bluntly this one is a snobbish rude lady who will not take disciplinary action toward the wrong. She does not believe in punhishment so to speek and I am just about fed up with and move to another school.

I agree highly with the other parents review the principal is very snobby and can be very rude. Both of my children attended SES and were lucky to have great teachers. Depending on what teachers you have there will depend on the responses you get from them (them being the teachers). I am a past student of SES and know a lot of the teachers and they are great teachers! Unfortuantely the principal and vice principal are not of the same quality. The principal here does not believe in any form of punishment. I have heard rumors from the middle school that most of the problem children come from SES. My advice to any parents of new students is this if you want to see any changes or to be more involved with the school then please join the schools PTA.

This was my childs first year in this school..And i found the principal to be very snobby and not very caring or helpful...The teachers (probably not true for all teachers but the one my child had) don't seem to really care about the childrens grades or parents concerns. The only parental involvement i was offered the entire year was to purchase things to bring to school like for fundraisers or class parties. But never invited to participate. In comparison from the school district we came from to this one it was definately not an improvement. I don't like to go into a school system where it is all about who you are. It doesn't make it equal. We are not high class but we definately are not ranked in the low class. But treated poorly here. Overall treat our children as equals. Noone person is better than another.
