California Standards Test (CST)

In 2011-2012 California used the California Standards Tests (CSTs) to test students in English language arts in grades 2 through 11; math in grades 2 through 7; science in grades 5, 8 and 10; and history-social science in grades 8 and 11. Middle and high school students also took subject-specific CSTs in math and science, depending on the course in which they were enrolled. The CSTs are standards-based tests, which means they measure how well students are mastering specific skills defined for each grade by the state of California. The goal is for all students to score at or above proficient on the tests.

Hillside middle school surprised me! To what I thought at first. Really turned out to be the best teachers and staff EVER. To bad this is the last year here... I wish I put my first kid here not at valley view...

I have had 2 kids at Hillside middle school. I highly recommend sending your child there in sixth grade. I also highly recommend getting involved with the PTSA because you get the ear of the principal frequently and I find that when I have had issues with my kids they are handled swiftly . Not sure if it's because I'm an involved parent and all the staff know me or if that's just normal protocol. Either way get involved!!! There are a few really bad teachers who should be put out to pasture but with unions involved the schools hands are tied. Always make sure to file a written complaint so there is a paper trail. The admin staff is amazing and very involved. They really run a tight ship. They do a great job with extra curricular activities many after school clubs to choose from. I only wish my kids could stay here forever! Will be sad to say good bye next year...

Hillside is the safest and funnest school for any child becoming a teen. The faculty helps the students achive more and more and reward them for their excellence

I absolutleylove this school! This is my 1st year at Hillside as a 7th grader and its great! The kids here are friendly and its pratically impossible to not make a couple new friends here. Don't believe those stereotypical movies that show kids being pushed around and bullied because there just making middle school look scary but its actually a great experience. If your child is thinking about enrolling for 6th grade encourage them to because even if they'll leave there friends they'll make new ones and they'll eventually see them again in 7th grade.

Hillside Middle School I would have to say is an average school. I wouldn't give it any extra credit points for 'creativity' or anything. The majority of the school is clean thanks to the 'Green Team' and Janitors.I would say that there are a pretty good amount of extra curricular activities and clubs; one being 'h.i.p.' or Homework Improvement Plan. The teachers do look out for what is best for the students (although we may not like it sometimes). I wouldn't choose to go to another Middle School because there wasn't anything wrong with my experiences there. If you have a child between 6-8 grade and you are deciding whether or not to enroll your child well i have three words for you.... just do it.

OK School. Kids can't be kids its all about the mighty dollar and not being sued. They teach just like any school towards the Star Testing which does nothing to help the children.

My greatest concern is this our schools ask for us to be involved yet when we are they are unable or unwilling to give us the necessary information to help them educate our children. Far to much focus is placed on making education fun. I do not believe enough attention is being paid to the basics of English Writing Reports or Mathematics. These are neglected from the elementary level forward. We as parents need to get the curriculum focused back on education not entertainment. Art is a class not book reports.

Hillside seems to be a decent school in terms of academic programs. I think the students would benefit from additional sports as extracurricular activities. I have always been treated with respect by the office staff but I think the teachers need to give the students more respect and individualized attention. I realize this is difficult with having so many students to deal with but this is a huge part of their job. Their main responsibility is to the students and often teachers lose sight of this. These kids are our future and they are in their formative years. Quality teachers are one of the main influences in the lives of our children. We can't lose sight of the importance of this issue.

I have two children that attend Hillside. We started out year 2003 rocky without a principle. Mr. 'P'. has really made a postive difference in this school. Not ony do the kids seem less stressed on campus but the faculty is much more friendly. The eniviroment for the kids that attend I feel is more family oriented and makes them feel they all really belong. My 'Gate' student of course complains but seems to pull off the work load and my average student is also doing very well. This is Mr.P second year and hopefully his third year in will be even better for all involved . His responsive manner is flowing over into a great educational and emotional experience for this difficult age group.

Hillside is a decent school. The teaching is pretty good school. except they could use more hands on classes like would shop and metal shop.
