For the last couple of years the API scores have been dropping at Carmela. The district is finally stepping up and making changes at this school. Carmela has some of the finest teachers but without a good strong leader its hard to stay on task--especially with the class sizes being so overwhelming. Hopefully this year we will start seeing a change at Carmela.

My child was in a combination class two years in a row. This definitely affected his academic progress in a negative way. I requested a change to another class which wasn't a combo but my request was not granted. My child's math and language arts scores have dropped considerably this last year. I'm disappointed that many of the same students end up in the combo classes. What a disservice to our kids.

My child has attended this school since 2004 in that year it was only one child this year 2008 all three of my children will be enrolled. I can remember that the the API scores for Carmela were really bad In fact we debated weather or not to enroll our children at this school. I'm glad that we decided to stay at this school there is a great group of teachers that take that extra step to make sure the children understand. Mrs. Pope and Mrs. Tanaka were great help in making this school better. This school could have great potential if it only had more parent envolvment.

Carmela Elementary has many outstanding teachers that care about our children's education. The principal Mrs. Pope has also helped to make this a better school. There are increasingly more opportunities for the students to participate in activities such as the Science Fair and the 4th grade field trip to Sacramento. Students are encouraged to strive for the best.

As a teacher at Carmela I've seen(and been a part of) tremendous growth over the last 4 years. We have worked diligently to teach the students more effectively while certain factors were out of our control(parent participation hours of instruction etc). It is a pleasure to work at a school where our administrators take pride in and support their staff and my fellow teachers care about our students as much as I do. I look forward to many more years of touching the lives of these wonderful children.
