Worthy noting are comments by staff below! The comments are grammatically incorrect and filled with spelling errors. That is life at Southold! These are the people teaching your children. The District is more concerned with what the staff is paid and their never ending benefits. Taxes continue to rise as the student population has declined over the last 10 years. The cost per student is near $30 000! The Board of Education Members are very proud of their mess so there is little hope for a beneficial public education that is not their priority.

Ecellent teachers and a great principle. All staff members work as a team and there is high parent involvement. Small class sizes makes for more one on one time with the teacher

i fully agree with -n get a great tutor you will need it. The teachers o NOT care about the students! They have no enthusiasm or energy! The principal cares about the teachers but not about the students or their education!

Get a good tutor you will need it. We came from other school districts and I have never seen such teacher apathy.

I think the fact that the most recent "glowing" reviews were written on the same day speaks volumes - perhaps there was an elitist PTA meeting the night before. Just check out the NY state rankings for this district. 'Nuff said. Also check out the grammar and spelling written by one of the teachers in their review. Terrifying!

This school and the people working in it care about our kids & it shows! My kids love school and I think that says alot.

They have teachers who have been making a difference in my children's lives for 19 years! Lots of great experience makes them truly understand what is best for children!

Dedicated - compassionate teachers - and administration / open communication / clean / safe. Very nice school!

Amazing kids and great teachers...who could ask for more!

Southold Elementary has the best school teachers on Long Island! They are so great with all of the kids and the kids love going to school everyday!

A fairly new school building yet lacking in design and function. Friendly teachers and staff but unfortunately not the most skilled. The newest teachers are the hope for a better future since the older ones seem to be stuck in teaching methods they earned 20 plus years ago. The PTA is more a social club of the elite not very inviting. My children are getting a medicore education. The cirriculum is not challenging or motivating. Only the basic subjects are offered no electives. Art gym and music are the usual offerings and not offered enough. A small school of less than 500 students should be able to offer much more.

Not what it purports to be. Small school with small minds. Exclusive in attitude-very discriminatory. Reading program really lacks and students suffer in late grades because of it.

I am a teacher at tis school as well as a parent and I feel very fortunate that my son as well as myself belong to this school. I also have nieces and nephews outside the district and I know that we are doing well above what other districts do. I was very disappointed to read the one rating a parent left. I teachers are very deicated to the children of our school.

I have 2 children in this school (2nd & 4th grade). They constantly complain that the work is to easy & the class moves to slowly. I have compared the work given to my brothers kids of the same age but in another district and have spoken to two families that recently moved from another district. It is apparent after this comparison and conversations with the new arrivals that Southold is teaching about two years behind other schools. Teaching is primarily accomplished by giving students ditto sheets. My 2nd grade child is now being taught things he did in pre school. The school offers nothing in the way of gifted or enrichment programs. There are no extracurricular activities offered. Each of my children started this school in kindergarten and they have not so much as turned on the computers located in the classrooms. We are moving at year end.

We are very fortunate to have such dedicated and competent professionals and support staff educating our children. They are providing superb instruction in a caring and non-threatening environment. Thank you!
